Good morning,

it would be great, if you could support IKEv2 VPN (VPN Type "Microsoft VPN") in a upcoming release of RDM.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,

Marcus

Hello Marcus,

Thank you for the request. We will have to investigate to see if the APIs support this. We will open a ticket.

+ 1 for this feature

Currently, it is possible to establish IKEv2 based VPN using the Entry Type "Microsoft VPN" and setting the type to "Automatic", but only if the credentials are stored on the client.
Of course, we would like to store the credentials within RDM.

+1 for this feature!

We are only using IKEv2 and using the credentials from RDM would be GREAT!

Thanks for the feedback. We'll be adding this to our 2025.2 roadmap. The other Microsoft VPN modes were relatively easy to support, and we're hopeful this one will be as well.

Hello Hubert

I'd like to know if the feature already is in implementetion? or how long it will take until it is available?
For us it would be necessary to comply with security standards.

Tobias

Hello Tobias,

This is something we'll start our investigation for this week. Unless the commands for Microsoft VPN don't support this, we don't think there will be major blockers for this improvement so it should make it in our 2025.2 release.

As a note, our current release plan for 2025.2 is for this June, with a beta version a couple weeks before. It's a little early to give you an exact date.

Hi,

We attempted to implement IKEv2 VPN support in RDM, but after testing, we found that creating an IKEv2 VPN connection in Windows directly from an RDM entry is not reliable with the current Microsoft API. This is primarily because the API does not allow us to pass credentials (Username/Password) or specify the sign-in method for certificate-based authentication.

As a result, we decided not to include a dedicated IKEv2 VPN type in RDM.

However, if you already have an IKEv2 VPN configured in Windows, you can still launch it from RDM by setting the VPN type to "Automatic" and selecting the name of your VPN.
