with the last update something has changed in regard to the devolution online drive integration. it seems to login in the background, so that a browser window pops up after some seconds, which, it says, I can close immediately. ok, annoying, but quite often now changes I make to connections are not saved, which you realise only if you re-open the same connection. and this is a showstopper! we had to re-walk a lot of changes we made because we realized next day that they have not been stored.
please have a look quite urgently, thanks!
Hello,
Yes, the login process was updated/changed with the newest RDM update. It is no longer tied to IE, who was generating multiple issues, but will use your default browser and so will open a new browser page to complete it's process.
Has for your changes not being saved. What type of data source are you currently using? Also are you a Devolution Online Backup user? If you are can you validate in the settings of your data source in File - Data sources - Edit - Backup that you are set to Online. It might have been switch to save locally and not changed back when we fix the connection issue.
Best regards,
Christine Breault
looks good to me:
the behaviour (not saving changes) is not permanent. I seems to happen ater a while, maybe ater losing connection to the online drive (due to standby, VPN usage or something like this)?
Hello,
Yes the backup is configured for the Online, so you are good there. I understand this to be intermittent and that you are using the Devolutions Online Drive as a data source. May I ask if you are using it as a team?
Best regards,
Christine Breault
no, I am alone, but have a second installation on another notebook. (but as the same user)
Hello,
I tried to replicate your issue with my VPN turn on and off and the offline mode on two instances simultaneous and was unable too. Everything synchronized each time when bringing the second instance back to online mode. Are both application the same version?
In File -> Data sources - > Advanced is the Auto Refresh activated and to how many seconds please?
Also if you could send us screen shot of these two links ( if you prefer you can send them to ticket@devolutions.net):

here you go. I use only the backup "backup", so I could delete the other ones if it helps
Thank you,
You could try, that being said if both your RDM's are connected to the same backup it shouldn't be a issue.
Engineering did poke me for your post and although they have not able to reproduce it they are investigating it. Ticket RDMW-7463
Best regards,
Christine Breault
ok, right now I have the problem in my RDM installation. If you want to investigate via remote just send me an email, not sure tho how long I can go today without adding/editing a session..
Hello @perler
Thank you for the offer, but we have been able to collect more data from other users also and it was relayed to engineering for a fix. The issue seems to only happen when users are leaving RDM open for a long period, like overnight.
As a workaround, you can close and restart RDM and all should be good. A simple refresh or a data source change will not work.
Could you try it and let me know?
Best regards,
Christine Breault
this seems about right, I usually leave RDM running for weeks. Restarting solves the problem but this should be fixed, as you don't really realise that entries are not saved until next time you use them. but I am sure you're on it :)
I'm glad the workaround is working for you, and yes the engineering is working on this :)
Further more we will post in this thread when it will become available for download.
Have a nice day!
Christine Breault
..is there an ETA for a solution? this get's really annoying as we are never quite sure, if entered credentials are saved and we need to write everything down as a backup. also, the browser window which suddenly pops up after some time after starting RDM ("logn successful") is super irritating..
Hello,
We're still investigating what could be causing this issue. In the meantime, could you please go in Help -> Application Logs and see if there's anything that could be related to the issue you're having ?
Regards
Jonathan Del Signore
nothing which looks like having something to do with the problem, see below. but I just had to switch between different VPNs having started RDM just three hours ago and now changes to connections are not stored anymore.
Hello,
We've made a fix internally that could potentially solve this issue. It will be included in version 2021.1.26.0.
If you could test it out and tell us if the issue is still occurring, that would help us greatly.
Thanks!
Jonathan Del Signore
ok, I would need a download link..
Sorry for the confusion, version 2021.1.26.0 isn't out yet, but should be sometime this week. I'll post a link as soon as it's available.
Regards
Jonathan Del Signore
ok, no improvement in 2021.1.26.0, sorry. the annoying background popup after RDM connects to online drive is still there. and after switching VPNs on/off session settings menu looks like this, no editing possible:
Hello,
To clarify, the fix we made in 2021.1.26 was specifically to make sure RDM and DOD are always in sync, to prevent any unsaved changes. Are you still experiencing this issue? If the session properties are now disabled after a lost connection, there is something else going on with the login procedure that we'll need to investigate.
Regards
Jonathan Del Signore
it seems to habe benn "fixed" in a way, that I now am at least prevented from making changes, when the connection to DOD is capped.
just an update, I think the issue here was a fluke, after a few days it looks like, that RDM reconnects to the DOD when loosing connection. Just the issue with the login popup now and we are good.. :)
Hello @perler,
Glad the DOD issue is resolved on your side. As for the popup login, I might not have been clear on the subject.
The login process was updated/changed with the newest RDM update. It is no longer tied to IE, who was generating multiple issues, but will use your default browser and so will open a new browser page to complete it's login process. We have noted your dislike of this new process.
Best regards,
Christine Breault
thanks. why not using one of your internal browser engines, you should have control to suppress the popup? or just some form of API authentication.. using an external software for this simple tool feels a bit... amateurish.. sorry :)
We were using internal engine before but unfortunately it was causing more problems. The only reliable engine is IE and it's not up to date. We can't use other engines for many reasons:
Chrome: very slow to start and unstable (we are third party dependent)
Firefox: not longer supported and updated
Edge: for now, it's not installed by default and it requires a runtime. Perhaps in the future this will be a potential replacement.

Hello @perler,
I noticed I forgot to make you try a connection mode for your DOD. There might be a way for you to not get the pop up each time, and that would be to use the Application password.
You can head to your Devolutions account - Application Passwords and create a new one with the plus sign. Copy it and paste it in your RDM Data sources settings.
Let me know,
Best regards,
Christine Breault
changed the data source to application password but the pop up is still happening. I try to live with it ;)
By curiosity are you also Sign-in in File - Devolutions Account? If so, and you are not using our Custom Installer service, please sign-out and uncheck the Automatically sign-in settings to reflect the screenshot provided.
Best regards,
Christine Breault
I followed your instructions, no change in behaviour, but when I rechecked the settings, I was again logged in automatically. I would like to close this now (for me), I think you should have a look into this whole area, it's kind of a mess with all the usernames, different data source backends, application passwords without an explanation what they are. this asks for major simplification IMO..
