Tiny suggestion (ESC cancels search)

Just a small thing:

When I type something in the search bar, I intuitively hit ESC to cancel the search and return to the unfiltered list. That minimizes RDM instead.
ESC works in many programs to clear a search when you are in the search field. For example: Windows start menu, Outlook, On-page search in Firefox, IE and probably every other browser out there :)

So it would be nice to have.

Another small thing I can think of:

When you drag&drop a session to a different folder, when you move the mouse over a folder it seems it opens it immediately, but does not update the display - so you never know where you drop it.
I suggest you make it like in Windows Explorer. Don't expand the folder when the mouse hovers over it, but only if it's held there for a second. So dragging something fast over the folders does not open every single one.

Thanks!

Hi,
Excellent suggestion. I have implemented it.

awesome! thanks!

We just got started importing customer servers and VPNs, and we are already using RDM very successfully. Also, it's a precious rarity to get support directly from the developers and get feature suggestions implemented in a day. I'm really glad I found you and your Remote Desktop Manager.

You can put that on your testimonials page if you have one :) it's true!

cheers,

ESC only clears the search when the search field is in focus. Can you make it so it also clears the search when the tree list (or any other part of RDM) is in focus?

wait... how long was I gone?

Hello,
I will verify if it's possible. Global shortcut are always a nightmare to handle with some side effects. This is related to the fact that we embed other remote connections. I think it could be easier to specify some controls instead, perhaps the tree as an example/

Hey David!

The tree is perfect for that, because that's what's being filtered 🙂
I agree that most key combinations should not be handled by RDM if the focus is on an embedded session, that can receive keyboard input (for example RDP or web browser).
We have disabled (set to "When not in session") a few default RDM key combinations, because they don't work in RDP sessions. That is for example Ctrl+Enter, Shift+Enter, Alt+Enter, Ctrl+Shift+Q (we use that on German keyboards to type the @ symbol), Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right arrow

See my other post: Some keyboard shortcuts interfere with text editing

Thank you!

Hello,

We've added the Escape key handling for the main tree view. It will now clear the filter instead of minimizing the application. This should be available for the version 2023.1.10
