Some keyboard shortcuts interfere with text editing

Hi!

I use Ctrl+Shift+Arrow right/left often to select words while editing text. In RDM this always switches tabs instead of selecting text.

Also on a German keyboard you type the @ symbol by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Q, (or AltGr+Q) but that is mapped to Quick connect by default.

Maybe there's some other key combination that people commonly use, which will get grabbed by RDM unexpectedly.

I think it would remove some annoyance for users if these keyboard shortcuts would be changed or removed. I know I can change them in options, which is what I did now, but I just wanted to share this problem with you and suggest you change it in the default configuration so everybody can benefit :)

Cheers!
Daniel

I just stumbled upon another one:

Ctrl+Space is a common key combo to trigger AutoComplete in code editors, but it opens Quick Search in RDM

Hello Daniel,

Since there are too many different shortcuts for different applications and keyboard layouts, there are no perfect solutions for default shortcut mappings.
What we could do though is to prompt the user between different preset shortcut layouts on the first usage of RDM. Something like the default mappings we currently have, one with less keybindings to avoid certain common mappings in other applications, and one with simply no shortcut mappings.

True, there are many keyboard shortcuts where you can't avoid a conflict. I was just suggesting to change those specific ones, because I think they are very commonly used and you might not be aware of them.

To be honest I never really bothered to change the keyboard shortcuts because I always just switched RDM keyboard shortcuts off completely whenever I encountered a conflict. (using the magnet icon in the status bar). And then I left them turned off, which means I never really could use *any* RDM shortcuts and I did everything with the mouse. Maybe I'm not alone here, and when we can eliminate the most common conflicts in the default mappings, maybe more users will enable and use the RDM shortcuts and have a happy life :)

Thanks for listening.

Hello Daniel,

I understand your perspective, we will evaluate whether these shortcuts could have better defaults or if they should be assigned by default at all as well. Thanks for the feedback!
