Good day,
I discovered Remote Desktop Manager today and am very happy so far, it looks to be the remote desktop application I've been looking for, for a long time.
I have a problem though, when I open RDP sessions in embeded mode, mouse clicks don't work on the left hand side and the top of the remote screen for about 2 inches respectively. This means I can't open the "Start" button or minimise an open Window. Opening them full screen or using MSTSC works fine. Clicking in an area near the affected area and dragging a selection box over the icons on the left works fine. The problem occurs whether I'm connecting to Server 2008 R2, Server 2003 or XP x86. It also occurs with mRemote (which I am abandoning after finding this app). It occurs whether I connected to the admin console or not. It only has this problem on my PC, which is a recent install of Windows 7 x64. I suspect it may be something with ActiveX or maybe there is some config which set the mouse clickable area not being correctly related to the screensize. I'm mutil- booting 4 OS's so really don't want to re-install Windows just to fix a minor RD issue. Any ideas on what i can do that may sort this out?
Mark
PS been trying to isolate and solve the issue.
-So far I've found these links which may point to the issue but haven't helped me as yet, minimising, maximising has no effect.

Hi Mark,
It's the first time I heard this problem. I'm sure that it's related to the ActiveX. This explain why you have the problem with both application. I suppose that if you use the external mode you don't have this problem ? Do you use large font or a non standard dpi ?
David Hervieux
Hi David,
thanks for getting back to me!
Yeah, it's not specific to Remote Desktop Manager, I use the standard font size and standard DPI (125% default), however I have a 26" screen running at 1920 X 1200. It worked fine until I re-installed Windows.
Hi,
Have you updated your video driver ? Can you try to execute RDM in Window Virtual PC and see if the problem appear ?
David Hervieux
Thanks that a good idea, didn't even think of that, will update the driver now, I'm currently using nVidia 257.21 which is quite new though but I see there is a newer version 258.96 so downloading that now. Will let you know. It does work perfectly from within a VMware workstation machine running XP on my pc. It does work fine in external mode.
Edit: Something interesting is I uninstalled the nVidia driver and it went to some VGAsave driver in 640X480 or something similarly ridiculous, anyway it worked fine like that, Windows then installed the Nvidia WDM driver and I'm back to the original problem. Still waiting for the new nVidia drivers to download.

Hi,
Updated the drivers and still the issue. I think it may be a driver issue still becasue the uninstall of the nvidia drivers initially sorted out the problem. I'll play around and will let you know if I come up with something. Thanks again for the help.
Hi,
I saw this:
http://computingondemand.com/nvidia-drivers-break-remote-desktop-with-windows-xp,
Can you try the driver certified with the Microsoft for WHQL certification?
David Hervieux
Hi David,
Still fighting with this issue. I have tried various Nvidia drivers, WHQL and WDDM. Still doing it, I'm thinking I just had an unlucky install of Windows 7, I have run SFC /scannow as well. I wonder if it would be a bad idea to replace all the registry entries related to RDP from a working Win 7 x64 box. If I can get another brand of GFX card to try and it sorts this issue out I'll switch to ATI. Don't know anyone who has a spare to let me try though.
Found this post as well but there's no resolution to the posters issue, so a bit useless:

Also out of curiosity I tried doing this in RDTabs and it works fine, however not to run down the product but for me it doesn't compare to RDM. In fact nothing I've tested does.

Hi,
It's interesting that with RDTabs it works, do you know if they use RDP 7 or an older version of the ActiveX ? What version of RDTabs do you use ? Can you try Remote Desktop Manager 5.6 for fun:

This version use RDP 6.1.
Let me know
