Devolutions Gateway support for "Proxmox (Beta)"-session

Devolutions Gateway support for "Proxmox (Beta)"-session

Hello Devolutions community,

currently i am testing the integrated "Proxmox (Beta)"-session within RDM (Version 2026.3.15.0) and currently its not possible to connect to the Proxmox-server through the Devolutions Gateways. For improved security it would be great if you could add the support to use the Devolutions Gateways as Jump-Hosts for this session-type.

Let me know if you need further information and thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Markus

Hi @markusburkhardt,

Thanks for the request, it makes sense, and Proxmox should be a good fit for the Gateway.

Almost everything the Proxmox session uses runs over HTTPS on port 8006 of the Proxmox host. That includes the API behind the dashboard, the web interface, and the noVNC and xterm.js consoles. The Gateway already tunnels this kind of traffic for website entries, so it should be doable. The main exception is SPICE, which goes through a separate proxy on port 3128 and needs some extra handling, this is something we would need to investigate first.

In the meantime, there's a possible workaround. I haven't tested it myself, but it should work: create a Website entry pointing to https://<your-proxmox-host>:8006 and set it to connect through your Devolutions Gateway. In theory, this gives you the full Proxmox web interface through the Gateway, including the VM and container consoles. If you try it, please let us know whether it works.

A few details would help us cover your setup:
- Which console type do you use: noVNC, SPICE, or both?
- Is this a single Proxmox node or a cluster? For a cluster, do you connect to one node or to several?

Hello @Benoit Cortier

thanks for your response. We are already using your mentioned workaround and it works as in intended, but the integrated console within RDM is more confortable and simpler compared to the webinterface and i gave it a try.

To your questions:

  • we are currently using noVNC as console
  • we are running a proxmox cluster and connect to different hosts within the cluster under some circumstances.

Right now this "Proxmox (Beta)"-Session is a nice-to-have-feature for us. My intention was to find a way to paste/autotype credentials into VNC-consols, but i ran into the same other issue as the websession. I left a bugreport under this post.

Best regards,

Markus

Hi Markus,

Thank you for the updated information.
Since it works well through a web session, I'll see what I can come up with to have the Proxmox session working as well.
