Two issues with RDM on Windows – OpenVPN missing and VPN inheritance not working
Hello,
I’m currently experiencing two issues with RDM on Windows:
- OpenVPN not showing up
- When I try to create a new entry, OpenVPN does not appear under VPN / Tunnel / Gateway. I have already enabled the OpenVPN add-on.
Do I need any additional permissions or settings from an administrator for it to appear?
- VPN not inherited from folder
- When I configure a VPN at the folder level, it doesn’t seem to be inherited by the entries within that folder.
Am I misunderstanding how this feature works, or could this be a bug?
Any help or clarification would be appreciated.

For anyone encountering the same problem:
After talking to support, I was able to enable OpenVPN through the system settings: https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/commands/administration/system-settings/common/type-availability/
However, support couldn’t tell me why inheritance wasn’t working. I eventually figured it out myself: if the RDP entry is a sub-entry of an asset (or similar), inheritance does not work. But if I make the sub-entry a normal entry, inheritance works as expected.

Could you please let me know if you are using the free version or you have paid license? If you are using the free version, it strongly explained why you can't see all the entries.
In the meantime, could you please let me know what is the RDM version and the datasource that you are using?

We are using the paid version of RDM (Platinum – 2025.3.20.0) with Microsoft SQL Server as the data source.
