Accessing and Managing vCenter VMs without using VMware Workstation Pro or VMRC plugins ?
Folks,
May I know if Devolution can be used to manage and remotely access the VMs through linked mode in multiple geographical locations without using VMware Workstation Pro or VMRC plugins?
I am trying to explore and consolidate all of the VMware access using the RDM where possible, rather than using the Web Browser.
Thank you,
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out regarding this matter.
If I understand correctly, you would like to manage your virtual machines (VMs) internally using Remote Desktop Manager (RDM). This is indeed possible. RDM allows you to integrate various connection types such as RDP, SSH, and others, enabling you to manage your VMs within the same environment.
I hope this helps. If you need further clarification, please feel free to provide more details.

Hi @Tommy Sanders ,
Thank you for the confirmation.
do I still need to manually install VMRC or VMware player for all the staff members to manage the VMware system from RDM ?
Hello,
Thank you for your response.
Yes, they will need it.
When you add the entry, please ensure you link the configuration (VMX) file from your computer to the entry.
Let me know if that helps.
Best regards,

@Tommy Sanders,
Would you be able to point me to the KB article I can follow to set up the VMware VM access from the RDM?
Thank you.
Hello,
Thank you for your reply,
I'm afraid we do not have a specific article regarding the entry configuration, as it is unique to each user. Is there any specific field that is causing you issues?
Let me know,
Best regards,

Hello
I think there is a bit of confusion on this topic, but I also don't understand what you mean by " linked mode in multiple geographical locations". I am by no means a VMWare expert.
That said, there are some native options in RDM. The "Remote Management" category has a "VMWare Dashboard" connection type, which lets you connect to a vSphere or ESXi hypervisor; you can list the machines and view the status and perform some basic remote management. You can launch a connection direct to a VM and it's integrated in RDM, no need for VMRC.exe to be installed or use the web client.
You can also create individual VMWare Remote Console sessions; which are direct connections to individual virtual machines. Again - this is integrated into RDM, VMRC.exe is not required.
I'd encourage you to take a look at these options and let us know if one or both of them don't meet your needs in some way, or if you have any questions or problems.
Kind regards,
