Left-Clicking Entry in Nav Pane or Right-Click -> Focus Session Doesn't Focus Session When In Another Tab Group

Left-Clicking Entry in Nav Pane or Right-Click -> Focus Session Doesn't Focus Session When In Another Tab Group

avatar

Hello,

Something I noticed today on v2025.1.33 (running on Win10, SQL data source) is that if I left-click a session in the nav pane that I have open, or if I right-click the session and choose "focus session" , neither of those actions will bring the session into focus unless I'm in the tab group where that session exists. If I'm in another tab group with a few different tabs and the one I want to focus is not in the same group, then the "focus session" menu option does nothing.

Is this a bug or do I need to tweak a setting somewhere? Any help is appreciated.

Best,

David Willis

Hello,
We did a lot of improvement in RDM 2025.2. Could you verify if you still get the issue with the latest version?

Hi David,

Thanks for the response. I just upgraded to v2025.2, and the issue with the session not focusing properly seems to be resolved.

Oddly, it actually seems to have gone too far in the other direction now, in the sense that I have the "focus dashboard" setting set to "left click only" so my understanding is it should focus only on left-click, or if I right-click and manually click "Focus Session". But in my case it still jumps to the selected tab even with just a right-click. It appears there's another thread open for this issue already, which mentions the dashboard setting as a workaround, however in my case that didn't seem to resolve it. I posted on that thread to ask about this.

But the issue in the topic of this thread appears to be resolved. Thanks again for the help.

EDIT/UPDATE - It turns out the behavior I was seeing with active sessions being focused on right-click was due to some assumption/confusion on my part. Turns out connected sessions have a different setting that controls whether they'll be auto-focused when clicked in the nav pane vs. when a disconnected session is clicked. See my latest post in the aforementioned thread for full details.

Best,
