Sorry to resurrect an old topic but is there a way to import hosts from an existing text file or spreadsheet? I work on up to 200 servers a night and it would be much easier for my if I could import the list from an existing file.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi,
You can import a list of session from a csv file. Just use the menu File->Import->Import Session from Csv

Do you have a sample file that I can look at to see the format? When I tried using the csv import I received an error about the formatting.

Thanks,
Tom

I have a fully generate CSV file where I would like to populate the asset information. Where can I find more detailed information about the headers I need in the CSV file so I can populate as much info as I can?

Hello,

In order for you to find more detailed information about the headers you need in your CSV file, I would recommend using the method mentioned in this link: https://kb.devolutions.net/rdm_import_strategies_file_format.html

In it, you will find that a good method of finding out the field structure is to create an entry of the desired type and to use Clipboard – Copy, then paste the content in your favourite editor. You will see the structure and the field names.

Let us know if that helps!

James, I already tried that and no go :-( It did not work

Hello,

Is it that the Clipboard -> Copy did not return anything that you can use as a Header in your csv file or that the import did not work using the headers that you have found using this method? Would it be possible for you to provide us a sample of what you are trying to achieve? I will then be able to see what might be missing. You can send this sample to me via private message.

As a test, I have filled the following fields:

In the XML generated by the Clipboard -> Copy method, under "Preview" I have found the following:

Hello,

Thank you for this screen capture. It helped to identify why the information isn't imported in the Asset section. Could you please add MetaInformation\ in front of all column names related to the Asset section like MetaInformation\OS, MetaInformation\IsVirtualMachine?

Let me know if that helps to solve your import issue.

Thank you Erica.. The syntax format you suggested in the headers worked like a charm when importing the CSV using a template.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. We understand that the knowledge base article doesn't provide an obvious method to use these headers. We will adapt the article to explain it in a more intuitive way.
