Copying data source from Windows to Android tablet

Copying data source from Windows to Android tablet

avatar

My data source in Windows is a .db file. I want to copy that over to the tablet and use it there.

On Android the only non-cloud option seems to be XML. Does that mean I can't use the existing file?

Can I convert it to XML?

Hi,

The easiest way to complete your transfer is to export all of your data source content (including credentials). Then transfer the file to your device and import it into your new data source.

But we would like to point out that you have free access to web solutions such as our Devolutions Hub Personal data source. You would only have to define your data source in any platform sharing your data.

In this event, the export/import technique for transferring your data is the same.

Thank you. That worked.

Just one more query: The data files are actually in a VeraCrypt container which I have copied across.

I have used EDS to mount the container. RDM on the tablet shows the relevant file but it is greyed out - not selectable (there is no save or select option).

Is that because the file is read only or am I doing something wrong?

Hi,
Do you mean that you are unable to import your file or you achieved import but have more questioning ?

I did not actually do any import.

I did the export into the mounted VeraCrypt container on Windows as an xml file. Then dismounted it and copied the encrypted container file to the tablet.

There I mounted the container using EDS and tried to create a Data Source entry in RDM from the xml file in the container:-

Add New Data Source > XML > OK > ... > Device > OK

It shows the mounted container. Tap that and it shows the contents of the mounted container including my RDM folder. Tap that and it shows the xml file in the folder.

The xml file shows as: <> filename

But it is dimmed and nothing I do will select it.

So being dimmed out - what does that mean?

Hi,

I apologize for the misunderstanding, but it is not about directly transferring the XML file itself because the generated XML file is located in the secure zone of the application, which is not accessible from the outside. RDM has specific export and import functions for your needs.

First, you need to create an empty data source of your choice on your tablet. Then, to transfer your data from the desktop version, navigate to the root and select the export function (.rdm) from the context menu, ensuring to include the credentials in the options.

Next, this .rdm file should be transferred to your tablet (it is a temporary file that does not require any particular security measures) and loaded into RDM using the import function in the main menu (top right) within the vault. You can uncheck the "Change ID" option to ensure that an identical data source is generated. This will populate your data source with the imported data.

Once the import is completed, you can simply delete the .rdm file.
