two issues connecting to ARD

avatar

Hi,
I'm trying Remote Desktop Manager to a host MacBook Pro laptop using ARD.
been trying two client OS and have issues with both of them.
1. my main OS is Ubuntu 22.10, and there, pressing the "Alt" keyboard key does not translate to the macos "options" key, but instead sends "command" key.
I tried in properties -> ARD -> advanced, to change "alt" to anything, but it still only sends "command".
also, the mouse middle click is not sent (instead only right click is sent). what should I do?
2. in Windows 11, the keys are sent correctly (Windows key -> command, control key -> control, alt key -> option), but I can't switch to full screen. there's only undocked option which is NOT full screen.
how do I reach full screen from Windows using ARD?

thanks!

Hello Jointdogg,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this,

I have a few questions which you can hopefully answer.

  • Which version of RDM are you using?
  • Which type of data source are you using?

I'm also wondering what your configuration is in your entry "Properties" under the "Advanced" section? Could you provide me with a screenshot of your configuration?

Let me know,

Best regards,

on Ubuntu it's 2023.1.0.5 and here are the advanced settings:

what do you mean by "data source"?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply,

The data source used by default in RDM is an SQLite named "Local Data source":
https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/datasources.html

I would like to confirm, when you attempt the connection outside RDM is it working as expected for you?

Let me know,

yes, for example in NoMachine from Ubuntu, it works exactly as expected.

the data source is SQLite.

Thank you for your reply,

I see, I wanted to inform you that I've opened a ticket to our QA department to see if they are able to reproduce this behavior.

I will keep you updated with any news I receive.

thanks.
I can produce whatever data you need, I'd really love to use RDM with the built in ARD support.

it could be related to Wayland support

Hello,

Thank you for your patience,

Our QA department was able to reproduce the issue, we've opened a ticket to our engineering department regarding this and will keep you updated with any additional news I receive,

Could you clarify what you mean by your latest statement?

Let me know,

thanks, I'll be happy to hear when you make more progress.
regarding wayland - there are some remote control apps on linux that suffered issues because some linux distros recently switched from x11 to wayland.
just thought it might be related

Hello,

Thank you for your reply,

I will mention this to our engineering department in case it may be related.

Samuel Dery can you say how I should configure RDM on Windows -> MacOS to be in full screen?

avatar

Hello,

Thank you for your reply,

To clarify are you using an ARD entry on RDM Windows also or is your latest question relating to an RDP-type entry?

Let me know,

using an ARD entry on RDM Windows (to remote control a macOS laptop)

Hello,

Thank you for your patience,

Unfortunately from quickly looking into this, I'm afraid it would not currently be possible.

I've found the following feature request that was opened recently regarding this:
https://forum.devolutions.net/topics/39549/apple-remote-desktop---full-screen-option--and-remember-stretch-setting

It seems our engineering department has already created an internal ticket for this which has been linked to that thread.
