Tag management - bulk edit of tag

Tag management - bulk edit of tag

avatar

Hello

We are using tags with some of our entries to find a certain type of entry easier. Unfortunately, we noticed that the search isn't as easy as we hoped. When using the normal search bar to search for a certain tag, we also see entries with other fields that contain that string. To eliminate that, we had the idea to use "#" in our tags.
That's where we hit a wall. It seems that it is impossible to manage tags centrally and to change a name of a tag and that it is applied on all entries that have the modified tag.

Is there an option that we are missing? If not, would this functionality be possible?

Thanks in advance.

With kind regards,
Nick

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

If you wish to have your search only include tags, and not other instances of a keyword in other fields, the simplest way would probably be to adjust your search options. This can be done by clicking on the ellipsis (...) button on the right of the search bar. There, under Field Options, you can disable all search criteria you don't want to use so that they don't interfere when searching for tags.

Let me know if that help, or if you have any additional questions!

Best regards,

Hello

Thank you for the answer. We know that we can adjust the field options to what we are looking for. Unfortunately, that is not very user friendly, especially when a call comes in and we need quick access to a random entry.
We don't always have to search on tags. Sometimes it is an URL, sometimes an IP, sometimes the name, etc.

As stated above, we found out that adding, for example, a "#" in the beginning of a tag (e.g. #SomeTag) is a valid workaround. But the fact we need to go over every entry (at this moment just under 10K entries) to change every single tag is a frustrating job to do manually. It is something that in our opinion could/should be done automatically.
We have for example a tag for entries that should be checked every morning. This is done by our first line support. In other words, when they are doing that routine, there is a large possibility that they will also receive a call regarding a completely random entry. That means that if they first need to change that setting, and then they can start searching, they loose some valuable time. If the call seems urgent, they could potentially forget to change that setting, and they will be unable to find the entry, get frustrated and so on...

I hope you understand the use case.

Nick

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

I am told that it might be possible to modify your tags using a Powershell script. As I am not a specialist with scripting, I will ask my higher-level colleagues to take a look at your request and see if they could offer help building a script to modify your tags.

Additionally, after seeing your request, our engineering team has asked me to open a new feature ticket so we can implement a tag management screen that could allow you to modify tags and affect all entries using them, so that you don't have to rely on a Powershell script every time. The ticket is now open, although with the incoming release of RDM 2022, it might take a bit of time before our engineering team can look into implementing new features.

Best regards,
