Restore from File Backup

avatar

Hi, I am currently using File Backup for my Data Source, which backs up the Data Source to a .rdm file. I can't seem to find where I can restore the .rdm file, if I try to import it it says "Unable to import the data. Please make sure the file is a valid RDM file." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter. I would need more information:

  1. What version of RDM are you running?
  2. Are you trying to import in the same RDM version as you previously used?
  3. What type of data source are you using? Also is it the same as you used to have?
  4. What is the size of the .rdm file?

Best regards,

  3. What type of data source are you using? Also is it the same as you used to have? Ans: SQLite, yes
  4. What is the size of the .rdm file? Ans: 410 KB

Thank you,

In that case could you do an export/import of your data source instead and see if this works:

  1. In your original RDM, head to File - Export - Export Vault (.rdm)
  2. Select the export options. It's critical to check the Include credentials option in order for the exported data to include the credentials
  3. Save the .rdm file on your computer
  4. In the other RDM application go to File - Import - Import (.rdm)
  5. Select the .rdm file from your computer and click Ok.

I'm sorry, I think I did not state my issue clearly, I am trying to restore using the backup done using this File Backup method. While the export method works, this is not working for me.

Hi Kevin,

No worries, I tried to give you a solution that would work but let me explain my understanding of our backup.

File Backup works a little different then Online Backup. Being that to be able to reload a File Backup, you need to actually create a new data source in your RDM without the backup section configured. When created going back in File - Import and importing the .rdm file from your computer.

When the data is loaded, you will be able to set your new backup location and delete the old data source from RDM.

Notice: If you import the .rdm backup file in your actual data source, it will duplicate the entries.

I just tested it in my latest install, and it work great.
