UI freezes every time there is a new update

UI freezes every time there is a new update

avatar

Every single computer where RDM is installed has this problem. The application will be running but becomes completely unresponsive. You cannot click any elements, minimize/maximize/restore the window. You cannot interact with the window using the Move commands - everything is completely locked up.

EVERY SINGLE TIME - kill the process with Task Manager and launch again and get greeted with a prompt there is a new version. This is not isolated to once or twice, this has been happening for months at this point but I could never determine a common factor since I was assuming it might be something external to the application. I am now convinced this is from something to do with new updates being released.

Again, not isolated to one machine either. Multiple machine exhibit the exact same behavior - if a new update is released while the application is running the UI becomes completely unresponsive until killed with Task Manager, at which point you are prompted to install an update when you launch the application again.

@edifus,

You are correct, we've been hunting this freeze issue for months now. There is a system option that will somewhat reduce the frequency of the freezing.

File > Options > Advanced > Check “Disable system event handlers“, you will need to restart RDM

We are still investigating and working on a permanent fix, more information can be found here : https://forum.devolutions.net/topics/35560/rdm-not-responsive#152462

Sorry for the inconvenience,

I should also add that every single time there is a new update, my pinned RDM icon goes to a generic file icon and has to unpinned and repinned to the taskbar to restore the normal icon... Every single time there is an update, on every computer it's installed/pinned.

This is odd, the installer was modified to resolve the pinned icon issue a few months ago. Can you try to un-pin, start RDM from the Start Menu and then re-pin and see if it is still pinned on the next update.

Failed again on 3 computers this morning with the new update. I unpin and re-pin every single time.

EDIT: taskbar icon has this issue - start menu pinned icon doesnt have issues.

Hello,
Do you use the msi or the setup for the installation?
