Abstract/Generisize Confluence documentation url

I'm requesting an update to the feature request documented here which was implemented to add Confluence documentation support.

There have been additional requests to allow this to support Confluence on-prem, but I think all of these vendor-centric solutions are going about the problem from the wrong direction.

RDM already has excellent support for embedded Web Browser (http/https) entries. Why not just tie the documentation tab interface and logic to this system? That would allow support for any documentation system vendor, with credential support that isn't vendor specific.

The simplest version of this I can think of is replacing the Confluence documentation url with the ability to reference any Web Broswer (http/https) entry. This would have the added benefit of supporting use cases outside of strictly "documentation" where users could name the tab whatever they needed and link to any site needed. It would still also fully support the original use case of Confluence cloud documentation, as well as Confluence on-prem.

Hello,

Thank you for the request, it's a good idea. At the moment it should be possible to enter any URL and RDM will use it as its documentation, but I think the login process won't work properly, as you mention.
I've opened a ticket to improve this feature. We'll update this thread when we have an update or if we have additional questions.
