Since we all have our documentation in Confluence, we don't want to have it in the RDM a second time.
Please add the possibility to embed a confluence page directly to the RDM documentation page.
This would be very useful.
Kind regards
Hello,
How do you see the integration? Just with an url to a specific page?
Regards
David Hervieux
Hi David
Yeah. You can define a URL to a specific confluence page by URL and this will shows up in the documentation.
Sure there must be a way you can login to Conflunence and you've to login only once and can access all documentation tabs with a embedded confluence page. Perhaps in such a way that the login information is taken from the vault.
It would be so useful to map our server specific information we already have in confluence under the specific documentation site in RDM.
Kind regards
I would like to second this! We use Confluence for documentation as well.
Even a simple URL link to the specific page would be helpful. Only a subset of the entries in RDM need/have documentation in our case, so would like to link only those entries.
In fact, if the documentation tab could be hidden for entries that don't have any documentation, or if the tab could be given a visible indicator that documentation exists for the entry, that would be nice as well - like how attachments have a visible indicator now.
Regarding authentication, I agree credentials could be pulled from RDM private vault or personal credentials. We use Azure AD with SAML to authenticate to Confluence/Atlassian and these Azure AD accounts are connected to our Windows user profile, so could also use "integrated" authentication?
Thanks
Hi David
Are there any plans already to implement this feature?
Kind regards
Yes it's on our todo list for 2020.2
David Hervieux
Hi David
As I can see in the Release Notes, this implementation is done. I can't find any related information how the integration works in the documentation. Could you maybe please let me know, how I now can implement Confluence Pages into the documentation Tab of an existing RDM entry?
Thanks
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us on that matter!
In order to be able to view the Confluence tab of one of your entry in your Dashboard, you will need to first go in the Properties of your entry, under "User Interface " (1) and make sure to add the URL of your Confluence page in the "Confluence documentation URL" field (2):
Once this is done, you will need to go under File -> My Account Settings (1) -> Settings -> Confluence (2) and press on "Log in"(3) to enter the credentials that will be used to connect:
I hope that helps!
Best regards,
James Lafleur

Hi, is there or will there be a chance that the onpremise version of Confluence can also be inserted? That would be an important feature for us
Hello David,
I just contacted our Engineering Department on that matter in order to see if that is something that can be added to their Todo list.
I will be in touch shortly with their answer.
Best regards,
James Lafleur
Hello David,
I just wanted to inform you that this request has been added to the todo list of our Engineering Department.
We will be in touch as soon as we will have more details on that matter.
For further reference, the ticket number is RDMW-5572.
Best regards,
James Lafleur
That´s great. Thank you vey much!
Thanks James for your explanation. Also for us, this is actually not usuable, as we do host our confluence also on-premise. Would be great, if that could be implemented soon :)
Hello,
After having a discussion on that matter with our Engineering Department, they explained that supporting the "On-premise" Confluence would require the creation of a similar environment on our end and may take a lot of time. For this reason, we would like to know what is currently missing from the current integration? What happens when you enter the URL of your confluence on-premise in RDM?
Best regards,
James Lafleur
Hey guys
Can someone share me a screenshot how this confluence integration looks like and if we can add stuff directly out of RDM? (We are looking for a new documentation tool and thinking about Confluence)
It also would help, if when someone connects to a server, as short description what he is doing would be asked and automatically documented. Is there soemthing like that?
Best regards
Patrick
Hello Patrick,
This integration gives you access to a "Confluence" tab in your Dashboard:
Through it, you can have quick access to the information kept in your confluence pages.
As for your other request, the closest thing that we have currently available would be the "Checkout system" which would allow you to generate a prompt when the connection is launched. Your users could enter why this connection is established inside the prompt and this information will be kept in your logs. For more information, please consult this link: https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/entrytypes_checkoutsystem.html
Best regards,
James Lafleur
I also forgot to mention that the "Prompt for comment on open" could also do the trick:
Let us know if you require further assistance!

Thanks a lot!
