Hello
We need SSMS version 17.x and 18. as I mention in this thread
Would it be possible to register several versions of a software in the Add-on Manager and to define when creating the entries in the RDM whether the default or an alternative version should be used.

Martin

Hello,

additionally the possibility to set the version per session would be great - as already available for the Checkpoint Dashboard. If no specific version is configured, the mentioned Application Version selector should be shown.

Thanks!

Hello,

No problem, we've opened a ticket for this. Just to be sure @maf, is the suggestion Min made appropriate for your use case? We would add a "use custom installation path" in the individual SSMS entries, just like the Checkpoint Smart Console entry.

Actually I discussed with Stefane who is very familiar with SSMS and we might do it a little differently. You would instead configure both a "legacy" and "regular" SSMS path in File > Options (as you currently are doing to choose the SSMS path), and in the entry you would select whether to use the legacy or regular configuration. It would also help us change the UI so that it's less confusing what is supported between each SSMS version.

Let me know what you think.

Hi Hubert

As long as I can configure the version per ssms entry I am happy
The workaround with the selector works for me, but for my colleagues its to confusing, they don't know which version they need for which customer.

I think the changes that Hubert proposed will simplify things for you as the creator of the session and the runners of the session. They will only need to double-click and the correct (configured) SSMS will start (no prompt).

As an update, we've made the changes internally and they will be available in RDM with version 2021.1.

Hi Hubert

Works perfect, thanks for the quick solution

Last question, which version does automatically detect start?
Does it depend on criteria like is integrated security enabled?

Hello,

Glad this is working for you!
The "automatically detect" setting is how it worked before the update. RDM looks at the default installation paths for SSMS, from the most recent to the oldest version we support, and checks the version of the executable to know what version it is. At the moment, SSMS 18 is the highest supported version.
