High CPU Usage when opening RDP connections

High CPU Usage when opening RDP connections

avatar

Hi,

when I open RDM it is fine and it opens quickly but when i open the connections it take 15 seconds. I go to task manager and "system interupts" is using 100% CPU.

Can you help?
Thanks!
David

Hi Dave,

From our chat earlier, I remember you saying you are using our Free application, but what version of RDM are you using? Also what is the type of data source?

I did find this topic about high CPU usage, that might be a solution for you: https://kb.devolutions.net/rdm_high_cpu_usage.html

Let me know.

hi,

free version: 2020.3.18.0 . data source is local. Under administration i just see "vault settings" and "page data source"

Hello Dave,

Ah yes, this option under Administration is not available for local data source. One thing you could start with is displaying the About box of the application, then closing it. It clears the unused memory. And then from here, if you could check the factors to consider in this knowledge base: https://kb.devolutions.net/rdm_memory_usage_windows.html

Hi,

I have change the cpu priority in task manager and that seems to have helped hugely!

Excellent news!

Has an extra, you might want to validate that in Help - Profiler - Debug Only that the debug level is at 0.

And in Help - Diagnostic - Data source you will have a run down of your entries. We do recommend no more than 3000 entries per vault/repositories.

Hmm, I may have spoken too soon. I'll change what you have suggested and let you know.
Thanks!

Would you be willing in trying a Portable version and see if you still get this issue?

Here are the steps:

1- Download the .zip file below:
https://cdn.devolutions.net/download/Devolutions.RemoteDesktopManagerFree.Bin.2020.3.19.0.zip
2- Create a new folder on your Desktop.
3- Extract the content of the .zip file into the folder created at #2.
4- Go in this folder once the .zip file has been extracted and run remotedesktopmanagerfree.exe
5- Enter your current serial.
6- Configure it to connect to your local data source.

Let me know.

hi, where might i find my current serial?

In RDM it should be in Help - Register Product or in your Devolutions web account here: https://customer-portal.devolutions.com/serials

Hi,

I seems to have sorted itself out. Didn't do anything different! The portable version was giving the same problem so went back to installed. All working very fast now. must have been some gremlins
