Duplicate root creation - after moving datasource to new SQL Server
Hello,
we are evaluating RDM with Devolutions Password Server. After moving the datasource to an SQL Server we are receiving the Error message
'Duplicate root creation'. Is there a way to eliminate the second root in database. I've read something about a script for that.
we are using the newest versions of both.
thanks for helping.
Hello,
Thank you for contacting us on that matter!
That being said, could you please confirm the version number fo your RDM and DPS instances?
Also, could you please perform a Force Refresh (CTRL+F5) on your Data Source and see if this issue persists?
Best regards,
James Lafleur
Hello,
Which method have you used to move the SQL database? The recommended method to move the SQL database from a server to another one is to do a copy only backup and the restore the database on the destination server.
Have you tried to directly connect on the SQL database from RDM as a SQL data source? If the database you want to connect as a data source in RDM has been created with DPS, as the database is now encrypted by the latest DPS Console 2019.2.12, it will not be possible to directly connect on that database from RDM.

Thanks for the quick reply
The RDM Version is 20192.24.0 64-bit
The DPS 2019.2.12.0
We made an Export of the existing tree in RDM, create a new database in DPS and imported the .rdp. So far so good. The Problem is, that we used two different user on DPS and now we have two roots on SQL.
We can see the the imported tree in DPM, and edit the entries.
Hello,
Thank you for the information.
Which data source type have you created in RDM (File - Data sources)? Is it a SQL data source or a Devolutions Password Server (DPS) data source?
If it's a SQL data source, this will result in creating a duplicate root because RDM cannot decrypt the root created by DPS. You must create a DPS data source in RDM to be able to see the content and not create duplicate root entry. I will send you further instructions in a private message to identify the duplicate root and to be sure to delete the right one.

Hello,
Thank you for the information sent in the private message. According to the result of the query, you only have one root entry in the SQL database.
Could you please follow these steps to reset the DPS and RDM cache to see if this will resolve the issue? That should help to resolve the Duplicate root error message in RDM.
1- On the DPS web interface, go in Administration - Reset Server Cache and reset the Entries, Vaults, Roles and Users.
https://helpserver.devolutions.net/webinterface_resetcache.htm
2- In RDM, refresh the local cache file with CTRL+F5. All users that receive this error message will have to reset the RDM local cache file.
3- Then, close RDM and open it back to see if you still get the Duplicate root creation error message.
Let us know if that helps to solve your issue.

Hello,
still no success. I've done this steps this morning. No success. I've made a fresh RDM installation on a Fresh client machine; same error.
I can manage the tree. adding new entries, manage users etc. .. the error message still appears. I have no idea. Maybe i will delete the database and create a new one…..
Hello,
Thank you for the information and sorry that this issue still occur.
Have you set a Security Provider on your database?
