FortiClient.exe

I've been having an issue getting RDM to work with the FortiClient.exe that is freely supplied by FortiNet with their web download. I've been reading multiple Devolutions forum/web posts about people having issues with the RDM Add-on not working unless you have FortiNet support give you access to the FortiSSLVPNCLIENT.exe and/or FortiClientTools (so the CLI is exposed to RDM). I even got on a Devolutions chat yesterday and was told the same thing by Devolutions support.

Well, not all of us have support with FortiNet since we support customers who use this VPN (not us ourselves) and we cannot dictate to our customers what VPN they should use (we can influence, but not dictate). Without that support contract, FortiNet just ignores you.

Is there any kind of fix that Devolutions can come up with to work with the current implementation of FortiClient.exe that works with what we get in that installation of the client?

Hi,

we were in a similiar situation a while ago after introducing RDM in our company. What I ended up doing was to use the FortiClient Windows App in combination with the Microsoft VPN addon of RDM.

It is also possible to automate the creation of the VPN connections via CLI.
Disadvantages: Works only with SSL VPNs not with IPsec, addon not under development anymore.

If that would also help you, I could share more details.

Hello,

Sadly the interaction with fortinet.exe has been deprecated by Fortinet directly years ago. I think they stop with version 5.6 for Fortinet. I personally used Fortinet and Forticlient before and we work hard with the engineering department. We even try to be "imaginative" to find a way to send the credentials to the application forticlient.exe but each of our attempts failed.

Fortinet adds many features like the AV in forticlient.exe and Forticlient is not more an application that we can send a command or use the UI to send the information to it for a connection.

If you found any way to start the Forticlient with a specific session and that only the credentials need to be sent, please inform us and it will be a pleasure to look if we can find a way to integrate it into RDM.

Best regards,

David Grandolfo
