Is there a wildcard for searching? Here's my scenario:

~100 RDM entries with Wayk Now sub-entries each of which is tagged with "Wayk Now".

I want to use Dynamic Folders to dynamically pull everything with the aforementioned tag.

However, if I leave the search field (in the Dynamic Folder entry) blank, it pulls nothing. I don't have anything unique I can put into the folder that doesn't also pull in the RDM parent entries.

If there was a wildcard, I could pull any entry with xyz tag. Possible?

Hello,

If you perform a search using a tag, it should work.
Have you enabled the Include tags option in the search/filter ellipsis button?

How do I even use this option?
I have 2019.1.3.0 installed but cannot find anything about Smart or Dynamic folders anywhere.

Edit: found it under new session > miscellaneous.
Not sure why I didn't see it before, found a smart folder template, create one, and then I noticed the entry under Sessions, probably was there before as well but I just didn't look close enough.

Name and tags are however not remembered when I close the properties window (with OK of course) , so it just shows all entries.
I also added a template, the name (what purpose does that serve btw?) and selected tags are remembered in the Template but now when I create a new entry based on that template.

@rolflobker,

Based on your instructions, I am not able to reproduce your issue with RDM 2019.1.3.0 on a SQL Server data source.

Could you send us a few screenshots or a small video demonstrating the steps to reproduce the issue so that I can try to reproduce internally?

Best regards,

If I leave the Name field blank, and search only by Tags, I get no results:

Here are my Tag Selection settings:

And here is one of my tags. Note, these are all sub-connections:

@Martin,

I have been able to reproduce your issue.
Indeed, the issue is caused because they are sub-connections.
I have opened a ticket to our engineering department regarding this.
The ticket number is RDMW-2207.

Hello rolflobker,

The Smart Folder entry's "Name" is used to find all entries containing at least the provided value in it's name. If you add a tag on top of it, it will look for an entry containing both the provided name and tag. Please note that as long as 1 tag is found the "tag" requirement has been met and the entry will be shown.

This means that if you put the name "SSH" and the tags "A", "B" and "C", the smart folder will look for any entry containing at least "SSH" in it's name and at least 1 of the 3 provided tags. Any entries not meeting those requirements will be filtered out of the end result.

It's possible to leave any of the fields empty if you don't need to use the search parameter it represents.

Hello Martin,

The following issues concerning the smart folder have been fixed for the next version of RDM.

- Sub connections are not found by the smart folder.
- In certain cases, if the name field is filled in, the tags will be ignored.

Thank you Michael.

Hi!

In RDM 2019.1.10.0 the smartfolder shows everything regardless of how I try to use it. If I name the smartfolder entry to VM it lists everything, if I change the Smartfolder entry/name to Smartfolder it still finds all the entries. If I instead try to use the field Entry Name its the same results. Anything entered in the TAG fields its emptied out after saving / pressing OK and reentering through properties. Same as Martin_ described.

Hello,

Are you currently using a DPS data source inside of RDM?

If so, you will have to wait for DPS 2019.1 to come out. The currently released DPS version does not support Smart Folders which causes the data to be lost when trying to save the properties.

Please do let me know if this is your issue or if you are experiencing some other problem.

Yup, that's probably it! Using DPS as a data source.
Thanks!
