Many times I will open up multiple RDP sessions at the same time. On each tab I have to click OK to the Terms type screen when logging onto our servers. I try to go Tab, OK, next tab, OK, etc. However after I click OK and move to the next tab, when the first tab starts loading up my desktop it grabs the focus back which messes up what I'm looking at. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
Thanks.
Hi,
This is not easy. RDP steal the focus. What RDM version do you use?

David Hervieux
I use whatever the latest Beta version is.
And just to be clear, I'm not talking about when I open a new session. I'm talking about after the session has opened and I get to our "Terms & Conditions" screen. I click OK to complete the sign in and after that it grabs the focus again even if I have switched to another tab to click OK on that one.
If it can't be changed that's fine. It's just something I find annoying. :)
I have the same issues, slightly annoying. also seem to have it on a webpage where I've set a refresh timeout to keep my session logged in.
Running v14.0.11.0 but was present in earlier versions as well.
Yes. This isn't new. It's always done this. Just never took the time to ask about it before.
David Hervieux I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with RDP since the MS free desktop manager does not do this. I'm into about 15 days of my trial and this is probably going to be a deal breaker for me. It's extremely annoying.
@Bernie
Do you have the problem with the Terms and Conditions as well?

David Hervieux
i may have found the answer to this in another post. https://forum.devolutions.net/topic30988-losing-focus-when-opening-multiple-rdp-sessions.aspx#post123815. Basically you go to FILE --> Options --> Advanced --> Other options. Under the "Connection" section find "Use Manual Activate Tab" and make sure it's checked. It's not 100% because you still lose focus if another tab is just starting to load, but it won't jump back for other reasons. I can live with this. :-)
Thank you Erica Poirier
Yes. That other thread is exactly what I'm talking about. I have a break when I have to click OK on one screen but it's when the desktop actually loads is when it steals the focus. I'll try that checkbox when I get to work on Monday and see if it does anything since it doesn't appear to be a guaranteed fix.
Hi,
i don't know if you have also this problem with RDM stealing Focus. For me, i open an RDP using RDM, it starts the SSL VPN to the client site and then starts the RDP.
Just after double clicking on the server i want to connect to, I usually go to my other screen to check out my emails or do other stuff. While i am writing an email, RDM steals the focus because the session has now opened on the server i double clicked. Even the "Use Manual Activate Tab", it still does that
I talked to someone at Devolutions about it a while back and the answer i got is that it is Windows that manages that. But, what is funny is that it is only RDM that does that. No other software i have tried has that problem. Even Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager.
Please fix this once and for all
i use RDM about 8 hours a day connecting and disconnecting from client sites, so this is very very annoying.
Thank you
Hello,
Focus issue tend to apear most often with windows 7-8 and windows server 2008 and 2012.
What operating system are you on when using RDM ?

Alexandre Roy
Hi,
i am using Windows 10 enterprise on my home PC and Windows 10 Pro on my laptop and both have the same issue. We are about 10 users where i work that use RDM with Windows 10 Pro and we all have the same problem.
I might have found something. I will add this to the next minor update.

Just a quick question. Do you have any AfterLoginProgram configured?
Regards
David Hervieux
Hi,
if you mean a program that start after i login to the remote computer .. no
Patrice
Could you export me one of your session without the credentials?
Regards
David Hervieux
Hi,
I might have reproduce the issue with your setup.
Im double clicking an RDP entry which starts the VPN first, there is a countdown for the VPN to start, I imagine during that time you are writing your emails, once the countdown is done, the RDP sessions starts and grab the focus. Is it exactly the scenario happning to you ?
Regards,
Alexandre Roy
Hi,
this is exactly what is happening.
Patrice
Hello,
I have a theory, if you remote the VPN settings off of your RDP entry, launch that VPN manually and then double click the RDP entry to launch the session, will RDM still grab the focus off of other app?
If not, I believe this is because after the timer to launch your VPN, RDM has to grab focus to push the credentials through the microsoft remote desktop in order to log you onto the machine.
This would be caused by the delay you have to wait until the VPN is started. Convenience can sometime have It's pros and cons and I must admit I never saw it the way you've explain it.
It would make sense if this is working on Microsoft Remote Connection Manager if you already have the VPN up and running.
The CEO will take a look and see if this is avoidable in your scenario, as for other users having other type of focus issue, I would like a video sent of the behavior you're encountering with the focus to aroy@devolutions.net to help me reproduce your issue to help the devs fixing it.
Best regards,
Alexandre Roy
Hi,
i have just tested it by starting the VPN first, then double clicking on an RDP to a server and while it is connecting, i changed the focus to Outlook. While typing, the focus changed to the RDP session
so no difference
Patrice
@Patrice Carbonneau
You made sure that this entry is not trying to relaunch the VPN to avoid the delay ?
If so could you please send me a video of the behavior?

Alexandre Roy
