RDM Documentation tab issue

Hi,

I documented some RDM entries a few days ago and everything worked well however now I'm unable to document any entry, neither those previously documented or a new one. When clicking on "Documentation" -> "Editor", I just get a grey page (see attached file screen01.png)
Profile permissions are the same than previously and I don't find any change difference in the environment (we upgraded our RDM to avoid any noise from old versions).
Additionally, I noticed that when opening a previously documented record the tables are not displayed properly (they were before), it's truncating some columns.
Environment description:
- OS: Windows Server 2012 R2
- RDM Enterprise Edition v13.5.6.0

Anyone having similar issues? Any advice?

Thanks,

Hello,

Your issue is not exactly the same reported here, put I think it's really similar
https://forum.devolutions.net/topic30328-rdm-documentation-tab-display-issue.aspx

Does this issue occurs for all your users?

Hi Jeff,

it's very similar... indeed I was unsure if open a new topic or add an entry to the one referenced by you.

It does not occur to all users. For the one that it occurs I did some extra things:
- Went offline/online
- Clicked the "Refresh" buttom
- Closed/opened RDM
- Rebooted the Windows machine running RDM
- Tried from a different machine
but it was always the same.

If you need any additional information let me know so I can try to collect it

Hello,

This is very strange.

Could you try the following steps;

This will create a completely new configuration folder for RDM. I would like to know if now, the documentation tab is properly displayed.

Hi Jeff,

I did what you indicated and it worked (after deleting the RemoteDesktopManager folder (which in my case was located in %appdata%) and restarting RDM and recreating the connection to the remote data source and everything worked well.
At the same time I tried in another RDM instance which was having the issue and it continued happening on this one (I guess it suggests us the issue is not related with something like "records locked at database level")

I hope this can give you a better idea of what's going up in this case

Update: one day later the problem is back in the RDM instance that worked after deleting RemoteDesktopManager folder

Hello,

As I can see, 3 customers including you, have reported this issue, but we have not been able to find the culprit for now.
Our QA department is still trying to reproduce.

I don't know if that could help us finding the issue, but I would have a few questions for you;

Hi Jeff,

Yes, they do.
Actually, all users login into the same virtual machine (running Windows Server 2012) and execute RDM.

Hello @Rafael,

Thanks for providing those useful information.

We're close to get our hands on it with what you gave us so far, we know that the problem dissapear after a complete deletion of the Remote Desktop Manager folder in %localappdata%. With that provided we know that Either the .lyt files or the RemoteDesktopManager.cfg file are the source of the issue.

Whenever you will get the issue again, I would like to have all those .lyt file and your config file in a zip, then I will be able to have the exact layout of your application and will probably get the issue, I do not belive this is related to an OS problem but it is still a possibility.

After those file will be safe and sent, I have one little test for you to do and would like to know the outcome.

1- Make sure RDM is closed.
2- Just delete the .lyt and just restart RDM
3- does the issue still apear?

That would tell me right away if the layout is concerned if not this is defenetly the configuration that leads up to it.

Please send these files to aroy@devolutions.net and thank you again for those informations.

Best regards,

Alexandre Roy

AH yes one more thing I almost forgot @Rafael,

Please follow these instructions to send me the .cfg file. https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/howto_configurationfile.htm

It's not a good practice to just send the raw file directly from your %localappdata%.

My mistake!

Hi,

After deleting the .lyt files it works fine.

Hello,

So that confirms it. I would require all the .lyt file from anyone who encounter this issue.

They are located in %Localappdata$ > Devolutions > Remote Desktop Manager.

Also, I need to know if you run RDM in the 32 or 64 bit version.

If you turn off the application password do you still encounter the issue.

Thanks for all the informations provided, were getting close.

Best Regards,
