Cant open FortiClient VPN in hidden mode

Cant open FortiClient VPN in hidden mode

avatar

I have an RDP connection for which FortiClient VPN is configured. It runs well, but a separate console window opens each time I connect. There is an option "Open as hidden", but that does not work for some reason. In task manager I see, that ipsec.exe opens for a second or two and then closes.

Oh, and one more problem is that I have to select "Use taskkill to disconnect" or "Legacy disconnect" to automatically close VPN after ending RDP session. It does not disconnect without on of those check-boxes.

FortiClient version is 6.0.1.0099

Hi,

Could you give us more information about your setup please?

Which version of RDM are you using?
Are you starting RDM as administrator?
What kind of FortClient VPN are you using the standard one or the FortiSSL?

I'm using RDM Free Edition version 4.6.0.0 64-bit. VPNAddOn.dll is version 3.0.44.0
Running RDM as Administrator was the first thing I tried, but that did not change anything.
VPN is standard tunnel (not FortiSSL)

If you are checking Show Command box, you should see the command line starting Fortinet.

If I check only Open as hidden without any credentials, my command is :

C:\Program Files (x86)\Fortinet\FortiClient\ipsec.exe -k -b "CONNECTION_NAME"
Could you try this command and your command directly in windows command line start as an administrator.

I'm specifying credentials, so my command is C:\Program Files\Fortinet\Forticlient\ipsec.exe -k -b -U "my_username" -P "my_password" "my_connection"And it does not work from Administrator console. Task manager shows two ipsec.exe processes appearing for about 2 seconds, and then both close. If I remove -b option (Run as service), connection is established successfully. If -b option is to make ipsec.exe run without visible console window, then that's a fault in FortiClient itself, isn't it? I couldn't see anything useful in FortiClient logs as well. So what now? Should I contact Fortinet about this issue?

I just look at the FortClient 6.0 documentation regarding this "Run as service" option and it should work.

You could open a case with them directly but you could also try to download the latest version from the support web site. Not the public one. Some customers complain about the FortiClient public wasn't the same as the "Private" one.

Well, it appears I am not able to create a support ticket in fortinet.com as serial number of FortiClient is not eligible for support.

But keeping in mind that there is a console window which opens, would it be possible to integrate it in RDM in a separate tab? Similar thing now happens, when creating SSH tunnel. That way output of ipsec.exe could be seen without a separate console window.

Hi,

Yea FortiNet required to have a support plan to open ticket.

I'm not sure if the window fill-in could be an option. This could be a feature request, kindly post them at https://forum.devolutions.net/forum17-remote-desktop-manager--feature-request.aspx

This will allow the community to demonstrate interest in your idea. We use this interest to prioritize the features we implement.
