Like others, I have wanted to open vSphere web client with Remote Desktop Manager (I used to have entreprise version at my previous job but for now I'm using the free version).
I have had some problems as my work uses Firefox and it seems the Firefox engine RDM uses is obsolete and doesn't work with a lot of websites but IE is not working so great either in general...
Well I then realized that both Chrome and Firefox are actually embedded (the whole program) in RDM for embedded use (which isn't clear from the help) and so I actually don't need to have Chrome installed to use it in RDM.
I then had a message that I needed Flash player but per the instructions here : https://forum.devolutions.net/topic26505-rdm---embedded-chrome--flash-player-permission.aspx, i installed Flash PPAPI (still without installing Chrome) and enabled "Always launch application on external protocol request".
So it would be great if you could update the help with that information for future users.
Now it connects and I can use it but I still have a question : is it possible to change the zoom/scaling of the web page ? In IE, the zoom was good but with Chrome embedded, it's a bit cramped at the default zoom level, I would like it smaller.
Another note : favicon doesn't work for vSphere web client, probably because it doesn't show a favicon on the main url but only on https://server/vsphere-client/.
Cheers,
Jonathan
Hello,
For the documentation that is not up to date, are you refering to this article? What is missing exactly?
https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/troubleshooting_googlechrome.htm
For the zoom issue with Chrome, I will verify with our engineering department if soemthing can be done.
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
Hello,
Regarding the zoom issue, have you tried to do a CTRL+MouseWheel and/or CTRL + +/- ? Those combinations seems to work find in our environment.
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
Jeff,
For example the fact that the Mozilla engine used is outdated, and make it more clear that in embedded, you use an internal engine and you don't even have to have Chrome installed aside for example.
The page I referred to was this one :
https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/sessions_webbrowser_chrome.htm
There is also no link or reference to the relevant troubleshooting page.
In the troubleshooting page, it says :
1- Visit https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ with Google Chrome browser; (Google Chrome browser in bold)
That's not correct, you don't need Google Chrome browser, in Firefox you can select to download Flash PPAPI (better without McAffee), install it and it will then work in RDM.
You might even be able to do it inside RDM...
You could also add a note about the protocol handler in troubleshooting to be complete.
As for the scaling problem, I just realized, I can change the zoom with CTRL + mousewheel on the login screen (not with CTRL + or - or CTRL 0 to reset to 100%) but then while I'm in the GUI, I can't change anymore, it will stay with the same zoom level. Maybe because it's flash ?
It's the same in Firefox (external), but there I can change it in the menu and save it some way or another.
But in RDM, every time I open the session, I will have to change the zoom before logging in because it doesn't save it.
Which brings me to another problem : my GUI preferences in the vSphere web client don't stick, everytime I close and log back in, I have to set-up my vSphere work space again, any solution to that?
Another note: every time I launch the remote console, I get 2 of them to open.
And not totally unrelated: with the same setup, I'm unable to access VMware Horizon 7.1 admin page. I get a weird empty message box (see below)...
Hello,
Indeed, we use third party libraries for the integration of Firefox and Google Chrome in the Embedded Display Mode. For Internet Explorer, we use the Microsoft ActiveX that is installed at the same time as the browser. We have seen a few issues related to flash though.
If none of the web browsers work in properly in embedded Display Mode, you would need to launch the website using the External Display Mode and use our Devolutions Web Login to handle the credentials.
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
Well I still very much like RDM and wish to use it to easily access my admin tools so I will try to work around those quirks, hopefully you can help me to get it to work as good as it can.
No way to keep settings between sessions for example? That's my biggest complain right now...
Regards,
Jonathan
Hello,
Not sure to understand what you mean by no way to keep settings between session, could you elaborate so that I can try to help you.
Sorry for not understanding your issue properly.
Best regards,
