Password Management for Team

avatar

Hello,

Looking at rolling out RDM to my team.

Is there a certain password management system you would recommend?

I'm currently storing a number as simply 'Username/Passwords' however am not convinced by the security on this.

Was hoping for like a best practices guide or recommendation.

Hello,

There's a lot of credential management system that RDM interact with, you just need to go in our Credentials section when you create a new credential entry.

This also depends on your needs and requirements. Does the remote sessions needs to be separate from your credentials? If not, you can then saved your credentials inside RDM directly by using the Username / Password credential entry.

Please note that using an Advanced Data Source like SQL Server or SQL Azure as example, by default, the password are hidden to your users. Furthermore, if your users don't have the edit permissions, it will even not be possible for them to modify those types of entry.

Do you plan to use our offline mode? If yes, it may be practical to have your credentials saved in the same database as your remote sessions, because if you are using as example Secret Server to store your credentials, you would need to get access to that server away from the office to be able to establish the remote connections.

Let me know your thoughts.

Best regards,

We'll be using an SQL server with offline mode for when working out of the office.

I've used RDM for a number of years - however I've been given the go ahead to roll this out to my team. Just working through the initial configuration steps to ensure we've got a good config file to build from.

I'll need my techs to update and edit passwords so they will need visibility on the credentials.

Theres an impressive list of credential managers - so just thought I'd ask for a recommendation.

Thanks!

Hi,
DVLS with the 2FA could aslo be a good solution.
