For example, when I run setup on centos using putty here is what's (correctly) displayed:



And what's displayed when I use the ssh shell...

Hi,
Did you try others function key setting (like Linux or Linux alternative) in the Keyboard tab ?

I'm unable to reproduce your issue.
Maybe you could try the application mode for the cursor.

No luck, it's okay i'll stick to using embedded putty.
