Hi guys,
I can not get any OpenVPN session to use stored credentials at all. It won't use inherited credentials or directly assigned credentials from the repository. This is all in RDM and not related to logging into OpenVPN or anything like that (I don't even know if it's supposed to autologin or not because it refuses to recognize any credentials). If I click "View Password" it does not show anything at all. This is RDM version 9.4.9.0.
Hi,
I will ask André to check that with you tomorrow.
David Hervieux
Hi,
Did you select the "Enable automatic authentication" option?
If not, nothing will occurs during authentication phase even if a credential repository is selected.
For the view password feature you're right this is something to fix and a new version will be released soon.

André Sanscartier
Hi Andre,
Let me give that a try. I had simply assumed that since I could't see a password that it wouldn't be functional anyway.
Thank you!
I gave that a go and it doesn't work. It will initiate the OpenVPN connection but when prompted for credentials it just sits there and does nothing. I let it sit for over a minute without touching anything...
Hi,
Could you give a try to this new version ?
You just have to replace the dll in %LocalAppData%\devolutions\RemoteDesktopManager\
The "view password" is fixed and I added some validations.
Just to be sure could you edit the session and save it again.

Works perfectly now! Thank you very much!
Andre,
So this fix is a bit bittersweet. If OpenVPN is not run as an administrator then it auto fills credentials just fine. The problem is that in Windows 8 you must run OpenVPN as an administrator to get it to actually add routes for the TAP adapter. Unfortunately when OpenVPN is run as an administrator RDM can not longer enter the credentials. Not sure what you guys can do about this... I wouldn't have an issue running RDM as an administrator which allows everything to work properly but this breaks all of my Windows Explorer sessions so yeah...
Thanks!
Not a simple problem! I will have to think about it. I'm not sure yet why it breaks your explorer session. Does it work either in embedded or external mode?
David Hervieux
Yeah, I know... I'm not quite sure how to solve it. I was thinking about have RDM run some kind of elevated macro script to enter the credentials. I'm not sure how RDM handles this natively but would it be possible to run the auto-login code in another thread that is elevated to run as administrator?
The issue with Windows Explorer session is essentially the same issue I'm having with OpenVPN not entering credentials. When you run RDM as administrator the Windows Explorer sessions still open as the standard local user so RDM isn't communicating with it.
Anyway, thank you for your help on this. Please let me know if I can help!
Oh, sorry. Missed the second part! I'm not sure if it will run in embedded mode or not but external mode is currently what I'm trying to use. I'll try embedded and report back.
Thanks!
Okay, so if I run RDM as admin and open Explorer sessions in embedded mode they do indeed work. I will run them in embedded mode for now.
Undocked also works when RDM is run as admin. So it's only an issue with external mode.
Thank you again!
In external mode, we are dependent of explorer.exe and I'm not sure what we can do.

Something happening with this case David?
Having the same issue with one of our client.

Which issue exactly?

Hey there,
I discover something strange in an Openvpn session. The User has no right to see the password. This is ok in the tree view (RDM pw 1.png) but if the user look into the connection (RDM pw 2.png) the password is clear!?
For info RDM Ovpn.png
RDM Version 11.7.1.0

Hi,
We will look into it quickly.
David Hervieux
Hello,
I attached a new version of the add-on to this post, which we will publish soon to our website. It removes the "show password" buttons.
If you want to try the version you can install it manually by dropping the .DLL file in %localappdata%\Devolutions\RemoteDesktopManager

Thanks Hubert!
The update works. But is this the solution?
Hello,
This isn't the end solution, we will work on integrating the "view password" feature better, but it will require changing things inside RDM. This will probably come in a beta version after RDM 12 comes out.
