Dashboard disapears

avatar

Hi

We have 3 PC that have RDM 6.0.0.0 installed that after a time lose the Dashboard window.
Once it's gone they are unable to get it back unless they close RDM and reopen it.
We have tried going to view\layout and unticking dashboard and then ticking it again but the dashboard then opens in a new Window and there is no option to dock it and we are then unable to close the Dashboard or close RDM.

Everyone else that users RDM does not have this issue, we are all running the same version of RDM and are running on Windows 7.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi
Is there any news on this, it's driving the users nuts as they have to keep closing RDM.

I want to report the same problem and maybe offer a little more insight from my experience.

My issue with the "Dashboard" is specifically with TAB'ing. In my case, I have created templates for QuickConnect that I assign specific TAB'ing configurations to so I know what kind of random connection I have made. We have well over 300 servers in our environment and trying to figure out which ones I have connected to the console or not can be a nightmare.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason, sometimes it does it on the first quickconnect, sometimes not at all. Sometimes it's fine while connecting to the first 3-4 servers, and not until after I start closing them does the TAB'ing start screwing up.

Like the OP, I lose the Dashboard TAB, but I also lose each of the QuickConnect TAB's as well. If I look in "All", then I can see all my open windows. Once I click on any TAB within "All", then "Dashboard" TAB shows back up. Sometimes my QuickConnect TAB's are back on their properly named TAB's and sometimes they are stuck in the "All" TAB until I close and reopen them, starting the whole issue over again.

Hi,
I'm unable to reproduce, I will try add some protection code in the meantime. Sorry about this problem.

David,

I could setup a GotoMeeting session with you sometime next week and produce this for you so you can see how this happens. If you are interested let me know.

Dave???

Have you reproduced the bug with the version 6.0.1?

David Hervieux

Yes. No improvement.

avatar

Ok,
Here is what I gone a do, I will do a special build with a menu to inspect my code when the error happen, This will generate a report. I will send you a link later today

Hi David

We are also testing this at the moment, it's looking good so far but I will let you know.

Error? There's no error generated. It just "happens". One second TAB's are nice and organized, the next they gone and only have "All" TAB left.

avatar

I mean, when the problem, not the error happen, I want to inspect the current internal state of the application.

Wouldn't it help to coordinate what I'm actually seeing on the screen? Or no?

avatar

A print screen might help. but I think that the problem is deeper than that.

A print screen won't help necsessarily as much as showing you what I'm doing, and when it happens. That's hard to show in a print screen. Just saying. I think it would be extremely beneficial to do a GotoMeeting session to show you real time.

More news on the dashboard front....

I've been able to pinpoint one way to reproduce the problem. If I have a group of TABs open and close one of the RDP sessions without switching to another session before it closes, then I lose that group of TABs until I click all and choose that session specifically. Then the TAB will reappear.

I've also had minor issues with opening sessions within a single TAB where the first session that is put into the "drop down list" form the arrow far right, then I lose that TAB grouping. I have to close out of the sessions that are being put into the drop down.

avatar

Hi,
I try to reproduce what you describe, do you close the session with the context menu?

David Hervieux

I think that I reproduced the problem, I will try to find the reason behind this behavior.

Thanks Dave!

I'm in the middle of a test and have about 50 servers open. I'll download and install this today or tomorrow at the latest to test.

avatar

Ok, had a chance to install and test...

First impression is that the issue is fixed. I had one issue where opening up 5 sessions and then closing the last kicked me back to the "All" TAB, but I DID NOT LOST MY TABs. That's the important thing to me. I clicked back in my TAB and closed each of the other 4 sessions with no issues. As a side note, of those 5 sessions, 3 could be seen and the 4th and 5th were on the drop-down menu. I then opened up 6 more sessions in their own TAB and tested again, this time no issues. Not sure how random that issue would be, but overall, I am not losing TAB's now. I'll let you know if anything changes and how often, if at all, it kicks back to the All TAB.

On a side note, is there any chance you could remote the lengthy "Quick Connect - " wording ahead of a quick connect session, or at least give the option to remove/rename? That added text means I can only get 3 sessions on a TAB at a time before I have to use the drop-down menu. It's a pain.

Would be nice to have left/right arrows to cycle through the list instead of a drop down menu.

Hi,
I will add a setting for the quick connect. For the the drop down menu problem, in the application options, in the UI options section, check the setting "Use Tabstrip Overflow".

Thanks Dave! Found the setting.

Follow up. 6.1.0.2 works great. Haven't had ANY issues with this issue in regards to Dashboard.

Thanks!

Thank you very much for the follow up.
