Hello,
I am experiencing an intermittent issue with my AltGr key stopping working ate seemingly random time. I was able to pitpoint the problem to remote Desktop Manager (it happened to all version since 8.xx up to 9.0.5.0 which I am now using).
The issue doesn't manifest itself all the time and it doesn't manifest itself as soon as the application is started either, making it harder to identify. However, once it starts, the problem will persist until RDM is closed.
The problem is that the "AltGr" key, located to the right of the space key on my Swiss-French keyboard (and most keyboard layouts) simply stops working. I can usually replace the missing key whith the "Ctrl+Alt" combo instead although not all the time and not always very consistently (I sometimes have to press one key, then the other very carefully for the combo to work).
A soon as RDM is closed, the key functionality is resumed.
The effect is global to the system: all other applications are affected.
The problem isn't linked to having a RDP session open: it will also manifest itself after all session are closed as long as RDM is still running.
Hi,
Could you go in File->Options and change all the keyboard shortcut to None just to see if this resolve the issue?
David Hervieux
Hello and thanks for answering.
Yes, sure: I'll do that and let you know if the problem happen again.
Thank you
I have been experienced this on multiple occasions lately with RDM. Apparently this is quite a common issue with different remote desktop applications based upon some old fashined googling. Any idea what is causing it?
Does it come back when you reconnect your session?
David Hervieux
It comes back for as long as RDM is opened. If I close RDM and reconnect to the server (same server-side session), it sometimes will have the same behavior happening immediately, sometimes not.
It can also start mid-session: I'd leave RDM open with multiple sessions open overnight and, upon loging in again, the problem would reappear.
hi,
we also have this issue on multiple remote desktop manager clients.
it is not only the AltGr key, it is sometimes also the Alt key.
sending mails in outlook with Alt-S is not possible anymore.
after closing this is possible again.
as we can reproduce this issue multiple times a day I can offer you to take traces or dumps if possibe.
best regards
hi,
additional info: inside a RDP session in RDM the Alt-Key is still working.
when you press Alt-S in Outlook to send it does not work.
I will send you a screenshot using a private message, the Alt Key itself seems to work but the second key is not recognized.
best regards
Philipp
Hi,
I see what you mean but I'm not sure what we can do. We don't have the control over the RDP connection. Have you tried to specify a different keyboard layout in the RDP Advanced tab page?
David Hervieux
hi,
did not change anything.
Philipp
Have you tried Keyboard in Local Resources for On the remote computer?
David Hervieux
we are facing same behaviour,
sometimes it helps if you minimize rdm or close it.
Kind Regards
Markus
======================
Switch to RDM, press AltGr ant alt few times - it gets unstucked then, it is bad workaround, but better than nothing. And faster than closing and reopning RDM
Same Problem here, with newest Beta. It helps to minimize RDM, but this is a bit annoying. Because I have to notice first that it doesn't word, switch to RDM, minimize it and hope that it will function.
I have a problem with Ctrl becoming stuck and I have to open RDM and press it so to disable the always on Ctrl. Not sure if my problem is the same as this with AltGr.
Just for a test could you reproduce it with the Classic UI?
David Hervieux
How can I enable Classic UI? Thx.
Hi,
It's in File->Options

David Hervieux
Hi,
will try it. Its an annoying problem with an otherwise very wonderful piece of software.
Thx.
Hi, did not help. AltGr got stucked again. Closed RDM, all went well.
Hi, if I minimize RDM the problem is gone, till the next occurence.
Hi,
This is really similar to this issue:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/cbaae74e-8311-4a46-a842-31dcdd6878dc/windows-key-stuck?forum=winserverTS
David Hervieux
Have you noticed if this happen after you locked your workstation?
David Hervieux
Hi, maybe must check, I often lock down the workstation, because of leaving the room or so. Thanks for the hint. I suspedted that maybe the remote service itself is the culprit and your link showed that I may so.
Sorry to bring up such an old thread but I have the exact same problem. Suddenly AltGr stops working. However ctrl + alt works. I have to close RDM and as soon as RMD is closed AltGr works again. It is very frustrating as it happens at least 3 times a week... Are there any news?
Best regards
Mike
@Marc Wenger,
What version of RDM are you running?
What is the language of your OS?
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
@Marc Wenger,
Regarding your issue with ALTGr, the article below may help you with your issue;
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/3a34cd32-9f63-4501-b27a-fd43ba8831ee/altgr-randomly-disable-when-using-rdp?forum=win10itprogeneral
The other solution that I can proposed, it's to disable all keyboard shortcuts in RDM. To accomplish this, go in File -> Options -> User Interface -> Keyboard and press the Disable All button at the bottom.
Best regards,
Jeff Dagenais
Hi Jeff DAgenais
OS: Windows 10 English
RDM: 13.6.6.0 (64-bit)
Well, disabling all shortcuts in RDM is like killing a bee with an Apache Helicopter - isnt' it? I mean the shortcuts in RDM are really useful... I'll try the solution from the link you provided. Although it is a workaround and not a real solution.... :(
Thank you and best regards
Mike
