Problems with Console /admin switch

Problems with Console /admin switch

avatar

I'm running XP Pro (SP3) with the latest version of RDM (5.9.0.0) and the latest version of RDP (MS Calls it 7, but it shows up as 6.1.7600.16385).

I have the "File | Options | Session Type | use old Remote Desktop Console...." unchecked to use /admin.
I have a session set-up to "Open in Console (Admin mode....".

When I launch the session as Embeded or Full Screen, I do not connect as console.
When I launch the session as External, it opens as console the same as when I run "mstsc /admin" .

I was running RDM version 5.8.something earlier today when I noticed the problem. I upgraded to 5.9.0.0 but the problem still exists.
I searched the forum and found a few older posts on this topic, but none of the things suggested there seem to work.

Thanks,
Rob.

Hi,
Just to be sure I understand, you try to connect in admin mode embedded and it does not works ?

Hi,
I will release a new beta later tonight, can you give it a try. The version number will be 5.9.0.15

Hi David,

I tested with the new beta and I'm still having the same problem. Embeded and FullScreen sessions cannot open in Console / Admin mode. Launching as External (Open Session (External)) will open a console session.

I'm working around this by always using External sessions when I need a console connection.

Thanks,
Rob

I really don't understand, I set all the required flag but it does not seems to want to open in console / admin mode. Can you try todo the same thing with Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager. We use the same ActiveX.

I found the problem. I had the following setting checked and when I unchecked it the Embedded console mode works. "File | Options | Advanced | Force RDP 6.0". I don't know how it got checked, but with it unchecked I can now connect to console sessions using embedded mode.
Thanks
