I was using your Remote Desktop Manager Enterprise program 8.4.6.0. After upgrading to version 9.0.1.0 when opening the program it prompts for the code, but any code that I put in will not work. It instantly comes back and says invalid code. I have tried reinstalling the program, and downgrading to the previous version, but I am unable to get any codes to work.
Is there a way to remove this authenticator? I have a local password setup on the XML file as well. Any help would be appreciated.
Could you try to install the previous version and remove it?
David Hervieux
Thanks for the quick response David. I tried that already. I removed the new version and went back to 8.4.6.0. It still is showing invalid code whenever I enter the code from the program.
I'm just grasping at straws here, but does that work on Java in any way? I upgraded to the latest version of Java yesterday as well.
I don't think it's related, you can try to rename the file remotedesktopmanager.cfg in %LocalAppData%\Devolutions\RemoteDesktopManager
This will remove your data source configuration but at less you will not loose your data. You will only need to reconfigure it with the password.
David Hervieux
That seems to have fixed it. I appreciate the info. I was wondering what would happen if a user lost the phone or device they had the Google authenticator on anyway, so you killed two birds with one stone.
I did have to set everything back up, but this time I backed up the secret key that it generated when I turned on two factor authentication in case this happens again. Can you just remove the line in remotedesktopmanager.cfg file for <encrypteddatasources> or is there more to it than that?
Thanks again for all of your help David
yes you can just delete the encrypted data source as well
David Hervieux
Actually David this didn't stay working. I upgraded the the latest version today, and its back to doing the same thing again. I have put in 10 different codes, and it comes back instantly and says invalid code. It seems to work when you set it up as long as you don't close out of it. As soon as you do, its back to doing the above behavior.
I downgraded to 9.0.1 and same symptoms. I will remove the encrypted data source until we find out why its doing this.
Thanks again for your help!
Could you go in Help->Diagnostic to see if you have the FIPS protocol disabled?
David Hervieux
Yes it has a green check that says FIPS mode is disabled.
Do you use RDM 32 bits or 64 bits?
David Hervieux
Currently using the 64 bit version. I think it changed whenever I upgraded to 9.x. I noticed it said x64 on it rather than the default. I don't usually specify the version, just whatever launches when I install it.
Could you try it with RDM 32 bit. Anyway the 32 bit version is faster and you should use the 64 bit version only if you have some memory limit issue.
David Hervieux
Thanks David.
I will try it this afternoon and let you know either later today or tomorrow.
David,
Same thing in the 32 bit. I logged in and out without any problems when I first put the Google auth on the program. However when I log out of my computer or restart, it wont take anything. It comes back instantly with invalid code.
Do you have a roaming profile. Does RDM is installed in program files?
David Hervieux
David, RDM is installed in the default location (C:\Program Files (x86)\Devolutions\Remote Desktop Manager)
However I do have the xml file that I'm using on a network drive so it gets backed up at night. I'm not using roaming profiles.
Could you try to install RDM in c:\RDM?
David Hervieux
Would you like for me to just run the program from C:\RDM (uninstall and install with that path) or move everything over to there? (i.e. the XML file). And im also assuming you want me to setup the authenticator again and see if it works after a reboot?
Yes but you don't need to move everything. You can install it side by side if you use the zip file to cop the files.
David Hervieux
Same thing. Still locks out after you setup the google auth app and close out of the program.
