100% CPU Usage when RDP session is updating screen

avatar

RDM hangs with 100% or near 100% CPU usage when a session connected via RDP to a client that runs for example robocopy or other batch job that updates the screen.

You are unable to use RDM for the duration of this update.

RDM Machine:
Version: 5.8.3.17
OS: WinXP
RAM: 4GB
CPU: Intel T9500

Connected to:
Win 2008 Ent.
32bit screen color
Embedded in RDM

and a few other sessions open as well - can reproduce easily... start a robocopy or endless batch loop on client and watch RDM use all available CPU...

cheers

Hi,
There nothing we can do, we use the Microsoft ActiveX. The only thing you can try is to reduce the color depth and resolution. Do you have this behavior if you do the same in external mode ?

yeah pretty much the same - cpu usage and hang depends a bit on the size of the window that updates all the time. Actually similar to browsing a web site that uses flash, a terrible experience with RDP... Thanks Microsoft...

Hi,
Microsoft will release RemoteFX and I hope it better with that. If I see something in the documentation, I will implement that for sure. Let me know if you find something.

Will do - but don't think RemoteFX will provide much of an improvement over Citrix SpeedScreen or whatever they changed the name to in the current release... but let's hope so, now we've heard about RemoteFX for so long -- cheers
