I downloaded and installed RDM version 5.5 (preview) and found out that the most important reason for using RDM, the ability to open multiple embedded RDP sessions, is no longer allowed in the standard (free) edition, rendering the standard edition completely useless in my opinion.
This is the error message:
Multiple embedded session is only available in Remote Desktop Manager Enterprise!
Is this correct?
If it is, why is this no longer supported?
Hi,
You are right, this feature will only be available in the Enterprise Edition, but you can open more than one RDP connection externally, not embedded. This limitation is not final, I can change my mind, how many connection do you open at the same time ? By the way the next preview will support also MDI layout.
Thank you for your comment

I'm sorry but limiting the core functionality to none makes the free version of RDM rather pointless.
And regarding the amount of connections i need to open, i want to be able to open an unlimited amount of connections.
I'm sorry that you choose that road, also since i put my time and effort into providing my collegues with the free version of RDM, which is now essentially discontinued.
I do hope you change your mind and decide not to cripple the free version.
I really like RDM and i don't mind helping you out with bug reports and feature requests, but if you essentially decide to pull the plug on the free version i see no other option but to look at another freeware or opensource product such as http://www.mremote.org for example.
Hi,
mRemote is no longer developped, it's been bought by VisionApp by the way and it's now limited to 3 simultaneous connection with the free version.

But I got your point. What kind of limitation do you think could be acceptable ?

I would keep the limitations that have been present so far. So no connection to SQL servers, no user management and security groups.
In addition to that, you could:
1. Disable multiple instances.
2. Disable embedded windows for vmware and virtual pc.
3. Maybe disable check availability of servers.
Hi,
you can download the latest preview

The limitation is magically gone :)

Yes it works again, thank you David, i appreciate it.
Embedded mode doesn't seem to size the screen (Default) the same as older versions. I have both 5.0.2.0 and 5.4.7.9 installed and using the same Connections.mdb file. When I open in 5.0.2.0 with the display size set to default, the desktop settings adjust so that the fonts and icons look normal. When I do the same using 5.4.7.9, all the fonts look squished when I have 'Smart Sizing' turned on and I get scroll bars when I have Smart Sizing turned off.
Thank you for the info, I will fix it.
