Hi,
We are testing with the remotedesktop manager and we have a problem with disconnecting vpn sessions on both vista 64bit and xp pro 32bit machines. We are using vesrion 5.0.2.0 of the software.
When we make a vpn connecting trough the OS there are no disconnecting problems, but when we use the remotedesktop manager software they constantly disconnect. We tried de-selecting the "automatically disconnect vpn" option, but with no result.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Erik
Hi,
First time I heard of this problem, I will investigate.
Sorry about that.

Hi Erik,
I found the problem with the "automatically disconnect vpn", you are right the flag was never used. It will be fixed in the version 5.5. For the other error, can you tell what kind of connection you try to do (RDP, VNC...) ? Can you check in the log if you see a disconnection message.
Thank you

Hi David,
We normally use RDP in combination with VPN..... In the log file (if you mean the "remotedesktopmanager.log" file) there are no disconnect messages.
So this means the software makes the vpn connection and disconnect it almost immediately?
There are no other problems, if we setup a vpn connection manually the we can use the remote desktop manager software to logon to servers with rdp correctly.
Thanks for the quick reply!
When are you expecting the release of version 5.5?
Erik
Hi Erik,
you can try the preview of the version 5.5
here
This is a work in progress, but it should be feature complete next week and you ca expect a final release in the next few weeks. But the database from 5.0 and 5.5 are compatible, so you can use both of them at the same time. I added more log in the 5.5, if you can check it.
Thank you

Hi David,
I tried the preview 5.5 version but it has the same "problem" the vpn connection is made for a few seconds and then it drops the connection.
Let me explain what we exactly want to do with the remote desktop manager:sym
If we create a new session we configure for each session the following:
1. On the connection tab we configure an rdp session to the customer server on the internal IP adress (192.168.xx.xx) with the logon credentials.
2. On the vpn tab we choose the vpn connection to this customer (allready configured in windows)
If we try the connection we see the vpn connection been made, the rdp session to the customer server is starting and it starts to logon to the server...... then it freezes because the vpn connection is dropped. Same symptom if we de-select the automatic disconnect vpn option...
The log shows no additional info (it is pretty empty :-)
Hope that it will help you to solve the issue
Erik
Hi,
Is it possible for you to do a test. I try to discover if it's Remote Desktop Manager that disconnect the VPN or if it's something else. Can you try to launch the VPN manually with this command line before the execution of the connection :
rasdial.exe "{VPN Name}" "{UserName}" "{Password}" /domain:"{Domain}"
Just replace the variables with your parameter values between {}.
Thank you

Hi David,
I tried the vpn connection manually with the command line and it connects fine and stays connected. I then start the remote desktop manager sofware and open the session to this customer (I reconfigured it without the vpn connection) and the rdp session starts fine too (and stays connected). I close the session and then manually disconnect the vpn (command line). In this way it works fine
When I tried the vpn connection with the remote desktopmanager software it disconnects again in a few seconds. This happens on both xp 32bit as vista 64bit
Greetings
Erik
Thank you for the info, I'll continue my investigation.

Hi Erik,
Can you try the latest version (again) and let me know if you see the Disconnection Window.
Thank you

Hello David,
I was busy the last few days, so didn't have time to check. But I'm back and I tested the latest 5.5 version....and it works fine now :-)
VPN sessions won't disconnect anymore (if I de-select the "automattically disconnect vpn" option.)
Something on my wishlist :
It would be nice if the vpn disconnects automatically only after the RDP or other remote desktop tool is closed...
But we are allready happy with the results so far!
thanks again!
Erik
Hi,
Excellent, but it should work, the connection should be closed only after the RDP connection is closed. I will continue my investigation.
