what does the search/filter toolbox at the bottom look like when that happens?

Pressing the x does not clear the filter?

Could you post a print screen of the filter context menu?

I actually never noticed the filter in the lower left corner of RDM (never used the filters) – only a 1000 or so session entries so no need for filters.

What I did notice when I saw the filter is that the filter contained information that I copied/pasted from a RDM session earlier in the day (not sure how it got into the RDM filter though). What I wonder (now but not to get off topic…) is if this may be related to another issue that I’ve had and not mentioned yet. When I copy/paste in an RDM session to my local clipboard it doesn’t always work. However, if I copy/paste it to notepad (within the RDM session) then copy/paste from notepad in the RDM session to my local clipboard it works. I don’t seem to have copy/paste issues with MSTSC or other apps like visionAPP vRD.

Ever heard of the copy/paste issue before?

Does it only happen in embedded RDP?

Yes, can't think of it happening in any other session type.

Now that I know where to look, the filter I saw applied was the data that wasn't copied back to my local clipboard from a session earlier today. Next time I have difficulty with copy/paste, I'll check the filter in RDM and see if it is applied to the filter or something.

Good morning. I figured out what is occurring and wanted to update you on the status of this issue.

There are two things actually occurring here (there are actually two separate issues and from what I can tell they are affecting only Windows RDP sessions).

1) Copy/paste does work but not completely when connected RDP to a Windows 2008 R2 server. We can copy from the remote server clipboard to the local workstation clipboard except when we try to copy/paste directly from the Windows Event Viewer. When connected to a Windows Server, trying to copy from the Windows Event viewer (opening an event from one of the Windows logs) by pressing the copy button, the contents won’t copy directly back through the remote session. What we have to do is to paste the contents to notepad on the local server then you can then copy/paste from notepad on the server to the local workstation. I found that the issue seems to be a Windows issue and not just an RDM session issue (it seems to occur when using MSTSC as well).

2) My initial problem was with the filter being applied when connected to a Windows Server via RDM. What is happening (when you press CTRL+F on the remote server to do a find within notepad), the find option comes up to type the text to search for but RDM takes over and sees that CTRL+F was pressed and moves the cursor focus to the filter text bar. I always wondered why when I pressed CTRL+F on a remote server to search for text within notepad and such and then tried to type the text to search for in the find box, nothing would type in the find box on the remote server (I had to click on it to return focus to the box). That was because RDM moved the focus to the filter bar (which is why my navigation pane sessions were ending up filtered). I guess it is time for me to find a new shortcut key sequence for RDM filtering so it doesn’t conflict with CTRL+F.

So issues are resolved – just thought you’d like to know. Thanks again for the quick responses.

That's good to know. We already thought about changing the shortcut but we were afraid of the impact for those who are used too.

Yeah, no need to change it, especially for those who are used to it already. You've already given us the abillity to modify the shortcut key combination along with the ability to turn it off completely or while not in session (which takes care of my issue).
