Undocked RDP windows and main window can’t be moved since 2026.3

avatar

Hi,
since updating from 2026.2.17.0 to 2026.3 (currently 2026.3.15.0, free edition), my undocked RDP session windows can’t be moved anymore. They stay fixed at one position. Working inside the session, minimizing and closing all work normally.

As soon as one or more sessions are open, the RDM main window can’t be moved either. Before opening a session, it moves fine.
If I use “Move” from the taskbar context menu, I can shift the window with the arrow keys. But as soon as I click somewhere else, it jumps straight back to the fixed position.

Environment:

  • RDM 2026.3.15.0 (Free)
  • Windows 10 22H2 (Build 19045.6456)

Entry settings:

  • Display: Undocked, current monitor
  • Remote desktop size: 1680x1050
  • Session recording enabled

Already tried, without success:

  • Display scaling: System-aware and DPI unaware
  • Undocked windows mode: Tabbed, Grouped and Standalone
  • Confirmed that “Open undocked sessions maximized” and “Force foreground using ‘always on top’” are disabled

This worked fine in 2026.2.17.0. Is this a known issue, or is there a setting I’m missing?

Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed report and for everything you already tried. We would like to understand this better before drawing conclusions, so could you please help us with the following?

1. Does it also happen with an RDP entry that does not use a fixed "Remote desktop size" (for example one set to the default size), or only with the 1680x1050 one?
2. Does it still happen if Session recording is turned off on the entry?
3. How many monitors do you use, and what scaling does each one have (100%, 125%, ...)?
4. When you drag the title bar of the undocked window, what exactly happens: nothing moves at all, or the window moves and snaps back when you release the mouse button? The same question applies to the main RDM window while a session is open.
5. Does Win + arrow keys (snap) move the undocked window, and does the main window become movable again once you close the sessions?
6. Do you run any tool that manages or controls windows on that machine (remote access software, window managers, PowerToys, antivirus, etc.)?
7. Does it also happen if you start RDM with a clean profile? You can try it with a new Windows user, or tell us if there is any reason you cannot.

It would also help us a lot if you could send us a short screen recording showing the problem: opening the session, trying to drag the undocked window and then the main window. You can send me the video via DM.

With this information we will try to reproduce it on our side. We will keep you posted.

Hi Alexis,

thanks for getting back to me. Here are my answers:

  1. It happens with every RDP connection. I don’t have any saved RDP entries. For testing, I changed the default RDP settings to automatic size, and the problem stays the same.
  2. Yes, it still happens with session recording turned off.
  3. I use a single monitor, 2560x1440 at 100% scaling.
  4. Nothing moves at all when I drag the title bar. This applies to both the undocked window and the main window.
  5. Win + arrow keys don’t move the undocked window. The main window can be moved with Win + arrow keys, even though it can’t be dragged with the mouse. Closing all sessions doesn’t help: once a session has been opened, the main window stays unmovable by mouse.
  6. No window management tools, remote access tools or PowerToys are running. Antivirus is Windows Defender.
  7. Yes, it also happens with a clean profile. I created a new Windows user, started RDM without changing any settings and opened an RDP connection. The session opened embedded in the main window, and after that the main window could no longer be moved. I then switched the display mode to undocked, and the same problem occurred with both the undocked window and the main window.

I recorded the problem with the clean profile and will send you the video (MP4) via DM.

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed answers and for the video, they were very helpful. The clean Windows profile test is especially useful, because it rules out your RDM settings and your own user profile.

We tried to reproduce the problem in our lab with RDM 2026.3.15.0 on Windows 11 (one monitor, 100% scaling) and we could not. In every case the windows could be dragged normally with the mouse:

1) An RDP session embedded in the main window, then dragging the main window.
2) The same session undocked, then dragging both the undocked window and the main window.
3) The same two tests with a Quick Connect session, like in your video.
4) Dragging the main window again after closing the session.

Since it also happens in a clean profile, we suspect something at machine level that interferes with window dragging. In your video we noticed two things: when the Windows key is pressed, a classic style Start menu opens (it looks like a Start menu replacement), and Screenpresso was running for the recording. They may well be unrelated, but we would like to rule them out. Could you please check the following?

1) Is a Start menu replacement installed (for example Open-Shell, Classic Shell, StartAllBack or Start11)? If so, please exit it or uninstall it temporarily and test again.
2) Please close Screenpresso and any other screen capture or recording tool, and test again.
3) Is there mouse, pen, touch or tablet software installed (for example Logitech Options, Razer Synapse or Wacom drivers)? If you can, please also test with a different mouse or touchpad.
4) While RDM is stuck, can you move other windows normally, for example File Explorer or Notepad?
5) If you have another PC available, could you run RDM 2026.3.15.0 there and check if it happens too?

It would also help to have a short new video that shows when exactly the window stops moving: start RDM fresh, try to drag the main window before opening anything, then open an RDP session and try again. You can upload the video here: insertar link

Thank you again for your help and your patience.
