Imagine for a moment you're logging into a Windows 2003 server; you use AutoText to fill in the username, domain, and password. You're in the machine's RDP session, but you need to type a command or update a password located in a text box. Copy-paste isn't allowed, but the AutoText feature is often very helpful for other tasks—hence the custom field. When I need to do something like that, I type what I need into the domain or username field and carry out the task. It’s not strictly necessary to add this new feature, but it would be useful for some people—especially those of us working with legacy (older) operating systems.

Thanks for the details; that makes sense. You can already do something similar to what you want by combining two features: copy the custom field to the clipboard, then use Type clipboard. Type clipboard sends the text as keystrokes, just like Auto-typing, so it works even when clipboard redirection is blocked on the server.

Option 1 – On demand

1. In the entry properties, check Hidden on your custom field. This adds a Copy <field title> item to the entry's Clipboard menu.
2. Right-click the entry > Clipboard > Copy <field title>.
3. Click in the text box inside your session, then use Home > Auto-typing > Type clipboard. It's also in the tab's right-click menu under Clipboard, and you can assign it a keyboard shortcut.

Option 2 – Automatically when the session opens

1. In the entry properties, go to Events > After opening and select Copy to clipboard (custom).
2. Enter the variable for your field, for example $CUSTOM_FIELD1$ (1 to 5). Hidden fields work too.
3. Once connected, the value is already in your local clipboard. Use Type clipboard whenever you need it.

Note: If you have a clear clipboard delay configured, the value is removed once that delay expires. In that case, use option 1 to copy it again.
