Resizing Columns in Navigation Pane Not Working

Thank you for the detailed description, it is very helpful.

First, could you tell us which workspace you are connected to (Devolutions Cloud, Devolutions Server, SQL Server, a local datasource)? If you are using Devolutions Server, please also let us know which DVLS version you are running.

Next, could you check one setting for me? Go to File > Settings > User Interface > Tree View, and in the General section look for Disable tree view horizontal scrollbar.
If that option is enabled, please disable it, restart Remote Desktop Manager, and try resizing the columns again. When that option is on, the navigation pane forces the columns to fit exactly within the width of the pane, which can make a manual resize snap back as soon as you release the mouse.

Could you also confirm the following, so we can reproduce it on our side:

• Is the option above enabled or disabled in your case?
• Which columns do you currently have displayed in the navigation pane?
• What is your display scaling (Windows display setting, for example 100% or 150%)?
• Does the same thing happen if you right-click the column header and use Best Fit?

Thanks for the response. Data source is SQL Server (we do not use Devolutions Server, just RDM). I have the "disable horizontal scrollbar" option in Settings -> User Interface -> Tree view disabled already, for this exact reason (as you mentioned, when that is enabled, I am not able to resize columns as needed and display them how I want - I disabled this many versions ago). Just double-checked to make sure it was still disabled, and it was. Display scaling in Windows is set to 100%.

I had some interesting findings today though. I originally noticed this issue on v2026.1.24. Yesterday, I upgraded to v2026.2.19, and confirmed even after the upgrade that the issue remained - that was when I posted this thread.

This morning I went to check on the things you asked - I had 4 columns displayed in the nav pane: name, host, URL and specific settings. So I went to column chooser and added a new column (Creation Date) to see if it made any difference - and suddenly the resizing seemed to start working again (for the most part - still one quirk - see below).

I don't know if adding the column somehow "reset" something or what, but it seems to have helped. Ever since I added that column, I seem to be able to resize normally now. Maybe my UI was just in a bad state or something still after the upgrade.

In hindsight I think I may have reported this too soon after upgrading. Now I'm wondering if the upgrade actually did fix the issue, but maybe there was some lingering bad UI state which the column change somehow reset. Not sure if it makes a difference but I did upgrade using the in-app upgrade process (so it launched the updater, closed and updated itself, and then re-launched), as opposed to closing RDM, manually downloading the installer and running it, and then re-launching. I apologize for the false alarm, I probably should've tested more thoroughly on the new version before posting.

That being said, there is still one thing I find strange - it doesn't let me resize the first column (which is "name" in my case) smaller than a certain point. For example, even with it working better now - I can expand - but I can't shrink any further than this (drag-n-drop now shows the line moving with the mouse but when I release the click it just does nothing).


Not sure if that is by design or not? Do you know if there's a minimum width on the Name (or any) column?

Also, a side note/question I encountered as I was testing some of this - how do we remove columns from the navigation pane? I seem to recall there used to be a "remove" button if we right-clicked a column header, but I don't see it anymore? And when we go to "column chooser", we only see the columns that haven't yet been added - we can add them with double-click, but not sure how we remove existing ones now...

No need to apologize at all, this is very useful information and it helps us more than a quick report would have.

To answer your two questions:

Minimum column width. Yes, this is by design. The first column of the navigation pane has a fixed minimum width of approximately 103 pixels at 100% display scaling. You can widen it freely, but any attempt to drag it below that minimum is discarded when you release the mouse, which is exactly the behavior you are seeing. The other columns do not have that same floor.

Removing a column. In the navigation pane there is no "Remove column" entry in the column header menu. That entry exists in the grid views, which is most likely where you remember seeing it. In the navigation pane, the header menu offers Sort Ascending, Sort Descending, Column chooser, Best Fit and Best Fit (all columns).

To remove a column from the navigation pane, click and hold its header, drag it down out of the header row, and release. The column is hidden and will then appear in the Column chooser, where you can double-click it again later to bring it back. You can also drag the header directly onto the open Column chooser window. This is why the Column chooser only lists columns that are not currently displayed.

On the original resizing problem. Thank you for confirming it first appeared on v2026.1.24 rather than starting with the upgrade, that is an important detail. The navigation pane stores your column layout (which columns, their order and their widths) and restores it between sessions, and that stored layout carried over through your upgrade. Adding a column rewrites that layout completely, which is consistent with what you observed. We have not been able to confirm the exact cause, so I do not want to present that as a definitive answer.

If the problem comes back, there are two things that would help a lot:

• Try Window > Reset layout, which clears the stored navigation pane layout and is our usual remedy for column issues there.
• Before you do, let us know which columns were displayed at that moment. If we can spot a pattern between your case and another report of the same behavior we received earlier this year, that would give us something concrete to reproduce.

Thanks for the detailed response and suggestions, it's very useful info. Just wanted to report back that on v2026.2.19, the problem does seem to recur, and adding a new column does not always seem to fix it. When it happens, it reverts back to the behavior I described where only a very quick change will be accepted - e.g. if I click and drag the column border for a half-second and let go, that might work, but if I try to drag for 1-2 seconds or longer, it does nothing (the "drag line" disappears, and nothing changes when I release the click). The main columns I have visible there are always the same ones - Name, Host, URL and Specific Settings. In this case I tried adding Creation Date again to see if that would work around the issue, but it did not.

I will try a restart of RDM shortly here once I finish some things I am working on, to see if that might help. But I just wanted to let you know it does appear to be an intermittent issue that pops back up at times.

Also I will say I am a little hesitant to do a "reset layout" as you mentioned since I do have a lot of things about the layout in general configured to my liking (non-default), and it would probably take me a little while poking around to find all the settings to change to get it just right again 🙂 But if it becomes necessary to do at some point then I can if I have to.
