Internet Explorer Mode

Hi Team, do you have a method to force IE Mode using the Edge browser embedded? I can modify it to external and then change it, but it would be nice if that can be done using the embedded mode.

Thanks!

Hello Jimmy,

Thank you for reaching out!

There is no setting to force Microsoft Edge's IE Mode inside the embedded browser, because RDM's embedded surface is WebView2 and IE Mode is a feature of the standalone Edge application only. External display remains the supported path for that, as you noted.

If the goal is IE-compatible rendering inside an embedded RDM tab, switch the Website entry's Web browser to IE (legacy) on Properties, Common, General. The File - Settings - Type - Web - IE Mode setting then controls which IE version is emulated for that engine (it has no effect when the entry runs on Edge).

More details can be found here: Web browser Internet Explorer KB.

@Sam Moynihan can you verify that those instructions for configuring IE Mode in RDM are still accurate. I know for a fact that this worked in previous RDM versions (going back several years), however the settings structure has changed since then. I would suspect that "File - Settings - Type - Web" would have translated to "File - Settings - Entry Types - Sessions - Website", but I'm not seeing any "IE Mode" setting like I have previously.

To be clear, I can still see and set the IE legacy mode on a per-connection basis, I just can't set the global IE compatibility mode from RDM itself, as before. However, referring to my previous posts on this stuff, I was able to go ahead and manually set the registry key behind this setting and RDM (ActiveX really) would respect it, so that's getting me by, but not very convient for non-techie users who just need it to be easy to configure.

Let me know if configuring the IE Mode feature was deprecated from RDM itself, although I'd be confused on why since RDM is still setting it on application start to the default "IE 11" mode (if blank/missing that is).

Hello,

Thank you for following up!

You are correct, the global IE emulation setting was removed from RDM's options, along with the embedded Chrome engine. Nothing in the settings replaced it, which is why you can't find it anymore. You can still select IE (legacy) as the web browser on each entry. The registry value you're setting manually is still the right approach. On startup, RDM only writes the IE11 default when the value is missing, so the value you set is kept. For your non-technical users, the easiest option is to deploy that value through Group Policy Preferences so nobody has to edit the registry by hand.
