Template Does Not Inherit Tab Group From Host

Hello,

I am on v2026.1.24 using SQL Server data source, and am testing out using the "host" session type with various templates attached to them. However it seems when I set the host to a certain tab group, and then set the templates to inherit in their tab group setting, and then I open the host with one of those templates, the host's tab group is not applied. See screenshots for example - this is the host:

And the template (SSH session):

But when the session is opened , it just shows up in the "all" tab group, and no such "Storage" tab group is created (neither on the tab group bar, nor do I see it in the tab group navigation pane if I look there).

I was thinking about this, and I guess I'm not sure if a template attached to a host is seen as a "sub-object" of the host (i.e. something that would inherit from it)? If not, then maybe this is by design. If that's the case, then I'd wonder is there any other way we can apply a host's tab group settings to the templates it opens? Perhaps we need to use a variable or something in the template's tab group setting, as opposed to "inherited"?

Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you for your detailed report and for including the screenshots.

What you're seeing is expected behavior. Although the template is launched from a Host entry, the resulting session is treated as the template entry itself. Because of this, the Tab Group is taken from the template's own settings rather than inherited from the Host entry.

In other words, even if the Host is assigned to the Storage tab group, the session opened from the SSH template will use the Tab Group configured (or inherited) for the template. Since the template is not considered a child object of the Host for this setting, it does not inherit the Host's Tab Group.

At the moment, there isn't a mechanism to automatically apply the Host's Tab Group to sessions opened from templates. If you'd like this behavior to be supported, we would be happy to forward it as a feature request for consideration by our development team.
