New Entry Type request - Public Domain Name Registrar Information

I really value the existing Certificate entry type, particularly the auto-syncing of the expiration date. It would be a significant quality-of-life improvement to have a dedicated Information entry type for DNS Domains.

While a 'Domain' folder exists, it's focused on AD inheritance. A dedicated DNS entry would allow us to track:

  • Registrar details (Name, URL, Account)
  • Financials (Annual cost, renewal status)
  • Lifecycle (Registration and Expiration dates)

Having this as a first-class entry type would help centralize our external infrastructure management just as effectively as we currently handle certificates. Thanks for the consideration!

Hello,

Thank you for the request. I had a few questions for you, to help us be aligned with your expectations on this potential feature.

  • From what I understand, you're looking for a new entry type for a "Domain registrar", is this correct?
  • You mention the automatic synchronization between the certificate entry and its associated certificate. Were you expecting something similar for this entry, or do you expect to enter the information by hand? I'm not familiar if it's something that can be fetched automatically, so it's why I'm asking for your expectations here.
  • Do you expect to be able to link this entry to other entries (for example, 'Domain'-type folders, or Website entries) so you can associate what domain registrar they are associated with?

And of course, if you have any other ideas for how you'd use this entry, feel free to share, as anything helps ensure we're going in the right direction.

I was looking for a way to add public domain name registration information items like: where it is registered (e.g. registrar), when it needs to be renewed, cost of renewal, DNS servers, etc. Important DNS records like Website and MX would be nice to be able to include as well.

Ideally some of this could be populated and checked using the information from Whois. Here is some info using devolutions.net as an example:

Domain Name: DEVOLUTIONS.NET
Updated Date: 2025-03-30T20:45:24Z
Creation Date: 2004-09-02T18:30:24Z
Registry Expiry Date: 2027-03-29T11:59:59Z
Registrar: GoDaddy.com, LLC
Registrar URL: http://www.godaddy.com
Registrar IANA ID: 146

Does that help?

Thank you for the information, yes, it absolutely helps. We'll add this to our internal ticket. We already have some developments ongoing for this new entry type.
