Terminal Text Fading Across Screen (SSH)

Terminal Text Fading Across Screen (SSH)

avatar

Product: Remote Desktop Manager
Version: 2025.3.26.0
UI Framework: Avalonia 11.3.9
Connection Type: SSH
Issue:
Text in SSH sessions visually fades from left to right across each line. This occurs consistently and is independent of font choice or terminal settings.
Environment:

  • Clean RDM install
  • Windows display scaling: 100%
  • ClearType: disabled
  • Issue persists across multiple SSH targets

Notes:
This appears to be a client-side text rendering issue (likely Avalonia GPU/subpixel rendering). Behaviour is consistent with known Avalonia 11.x text rendering regressions.
Request:

  • Is there a way to disable hardware acceleration or force software rendering in RDM?
  • Is this resolved in a newer Avalonia runtime or upcoming RDM build?
  • Is there a known issue or workaround specific to SSH terminal rendering?

Hi Brian,

Thank you for reaching out and for the clear request.

Answers:

  • Disable hardware acceleration or force software rendering in RDM
    • As far as I know, this is not currently possible.
  • Resolved in a newer Avalonia runtime or upcoming RDM build
    • I will discuss this with the developers on Monday to confirm.
  • Known issue or workaround for SSH terminal rendering
    • This does not appear to be a known issue. I found no similar user reports and no internal RDM tickets related to it.

For now, I have been unable to reproduce the behaviour using RDM version 2025.3.27 (Latest).

Regarding ClearType, I assume you are referring to the Windows setting. I disabled it for testing, but it did not change the behaviour.

Let’s keep each other updated.

Best regards,

Hi Marc-Antoine,

thanks for the quick reply.

Please find attached, a couple of screenshots that shows the behaviour I'm seeing. Notice the left - right colour change on long lines

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

Call me crazy, but I see no colour fade in the two screenshots. I understand what you mean, but I just don't see it.

I'll get a second opinion on this.

It pains me to ask this, could it be your monitor?

Best regards,

The first screenshot is RDM, the second is MobaXTerm. See the difference?

Hi Brian,

The difference I see between MobaXTerm and RDM is your syntax highlighting. https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/kb/knowledge-base/syntax-highlighting/

For example, your "If" is highlighted in purple in MobaXTerm, but it isn't in RDM.

However, I do not see how this ties to the initial question or report about Avalonia and rendering in RDM.

What were you hoping for me to notice?

Best regards,

Marc-Antoine Dubois

You're seriously telling me you don't see the left to right "fade" in the long line of text in the RDM screenshot?

OK, I'll go get my eye checked and then move over to Moba full time.

Hello

Sorry for the back and forth on this.

We understand what you’re describing, but we’re still not able to clearly observe the left-to-right fade in the screenshots or reproduce it on our side.

For issues like this, which may involve GPU or sub-pixel rendering, screenshots and even recordings don’t always capture what’s visible on the physical display.

If you’re able to, could you share a phone photo of the monitor (taken straight on) showing the RDM SSH session? A side-by-side photo with MobaXTerm displaying the same content would be especially helpful.

We’re sorry for the extra step; this will give us the best chance to understand and investigate what you’re seeing properly.

Thank you for your patience.

Best regard
