Typing Macro Execution with Variables

Typing Macro Execution with Variables

avatar

Hi all,

We're attempting to execute a series of SSH commands across multiple devices at the same time. The Typing Macro we've developed has a couple of variables which the tech will enter when they execute the macro - Works perfectly when executing the macro on a single session. The moment we want to run the same Macro across multiple devices at once, the Typing Macro prompts for the variables on every session. The easy answer would be if there's a way for a Typing Macro to be told to maintain variables across simultaneous executions like that.

I'm aware of the broadcast function, which we're prepared to fall back to, if the above isn't possible. The fact that we need to open all sessions first (sometimes 50 or 60 at once), then turn on broadcast, BEFORE we can begin to execute the Macro is our sticking point that adds time.

It's a bit of a jank setup that could be better solved with budget... but you do what you can, with what you have.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Devolutions Support.

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to retain the information entered in a variable by a technician and reuse it across other SSH sessions.

I understand that the broadcast feature can be time-consuming, as it requires opening each SSH session manually. For this reason, I recommend considering the use of playlists. You can configure a playlist to open a specific set of SSH entries in the desired order. Once all sessions are open, you can start broadcasting and use your typing macro, which will then apply to all entries in the broadcast.

Using playlists can help streamline the process and make the broadcast feature more practical.

Here is some additional information that may be helpful:
