Feature Request / Feedback for SFTP Interface Improvements

Hello, hope you’re doing well.

I use SFTP frequently, and I’ve noticed a few issues and missing features in the current SFTP interface:

  1. Unable to navigate up from /home/user by default
    1. When an SFTP connection is established, it automatically opens at /home/user, but I can’t go one directory up from there — even if I type / manually in the path bar, it doesn’t allow me to access the parent directories.
    2. The only workaround is to open the connection properties, go to the General tab, and manually set the Home directory to /. This lets me access the root path.
    3. While it’s technically a one-time configuration, it becomes frustrating when managing 20+ SFTP connections — I need to edit each connection just to access the root directory.
  2. No clear indication for failed transfers
    1. When I try to upload a file and don’t have sufficient permissions, the file simply doesn’t transfer — but there’s no failure message in the Transfers window.
    2. It only shows progress (e.g., uploading percentage or 100% when completed), but if the transfer fails, the progress bar briefly appears and disappears without any visible error message or status indicator.
  3. Refresh resets to the initial directory
    1. When I press the Refresh button while browsing a subdirectory (for example /var/www/frontends/client), it sends me back to the initial directory (e.g. /) instead of refreshing the current one.
    2. (Note: I have to set the Home directory as / in settings, otherwise I can’t reach that directory at all.)
  4. Missing “Owner/Group” and “Permissions” columns
    1. The file list currently shows only Name, Modified Date, and Type. However, it would be extremely useful to also display Owner/Group and Permissions columns.
    2. These are basic attributes needed for SFTP file management — without them, I constantly have to fall back to SSH to check or fix permissions manually.

Overall, these are small but important improvements that would make the SFTP experience much smoother for users managing multiple servers.

Thank you for your time and great work on Devolutions!

Best regards,
ASLAN

Hello,

These definitely look like good improvements, so we'll take a look at all of them.

  1. We'll open a ticket to make this less intrusive. Whether by adding a general setting, or changing the default value.
  2. At the time of the implementation, we didn't have a clear response from the server allowing us to handle it properly in RDM. We'll open a ticket to investigate what can be done now.
  3. This improvement has already been released in version 2025.3. There are now 2 buttons:
    1. Home: Reset to the initial directory like the old refresh
    2. Refresh: Refrehes and stays at the current location
  4. We'll open a ticket to add these columns.

Hello,

When will version 2025.3 be available for download?
Right now, it shows Version: 2025.2.30.0, and when I try to update, it says that I’m already using the latest version.

I’m also looking forward to the other improvements.
Thank you and have a great day!
