AD Dashboard - Copy To New User

AD Dashboard - Copy To New User

avatar

Good morning folks.

I was trying to use one of our A/D Dashboards set up to Copy / Create a new user. I've never used it like this before, so thought I would try. However, when I highlighted my own account (that is currently loading the A/D Dashboard), I get the following error:

I can actually log in to the Domain Controller and perform a Copy function using the same Full Name, UPN, SAM Account Name, and Password as I tried in RDM.

Thanks!

Hello Chuck,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this,

I see, I assume it works as expected when using the Copy/Create new user on another user account that you are not currently connected to the Dashboard with. Would this be correct, or do you encounter the same issue?

Let me know,

Best regards,

Samuel Dery

I will try that tomorrow morning.

I believe I did earlier today as part of T-Shooting, but cannot remember 100% to give a definite answer.

I will try again and respond with the results.

This sounds to me like we have a bug copying some Attributes of the user account that we should not be copying, maybe your account has some specific properties we are not allowed to copy. The more details you can give us about your account that would be great. Also can you try copying some other accounts see if they work, or does the same error happen on all user accounts.

@Paul Dumais
Good morning, sir.

So I launched the A/D Dashboard for a completely different domain and grabbed someone I knew was a standard user (No Domain Admin, etc.). I noticed the same error verbiage, but different DSID error number:
aaec93e4-7d4a-4567-bf93-efb684ef2be7
Next step, in that same domain, was to create a new user utilizing the A/D Dashboard which worked.
36d8e3b6-937e-4ab6-aa21-607ff82d7747
I then copied that user to a new one and had no issues:
233841c0-cd23-4eec-9c95-d68d52d24473
So next step, was to add the 'TEST CHUCK' user to an existing group in the domain that I knew was not restricted:
b8cb22b6-26cd-4c3f-8e48-7b21a4eb13b6
After doing that, I tried to copy the user and received the following:
8af04264-97cf-4a16-8685-a9a2672abee7
So it seems as if a user belongs to any group memberships other than 'Default Users', it will not work.

Just for reference with regards to the group I added the user to:

Hope this helps...?

Hello Chuck,

Thank you for being so patient!

This issue has been resolved, and the fix is available in the latest release of RDM (2025.3.16.0).

Please note that a database upgrade is required if you are using SQL Server as your datasource.

Please consult this article prior to perform the upgrade
https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/windows/installation/database-upgrade/

Please let us know if this works or if you are still encountering any issues.

Best regards,

Maxim Robert
