OpenVPN - On Session Close problem

avatar

Good day,

Today we have upgraded from 2025.1.41.0 to latest version 2025.2.29.0 and we just noticed following issue:

- We open a a RDP session which is configured to use an OpenVPN connection
- The connection works fine - OpenVPN is established and afterwards it connects to the RDP server
- But when we disconnect from the RDP Server both sessions (OpenVPN and RDP) remain open

So it looks like the VPN setting "On session close" is no longer working.

If we uninstall RDM and re-install the previous version 2025.1.41.0 everything works ok again.

Is that maybe a known issue?

Thanks for any information.

Best regards
Michael

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this.

What type of data source are you using?

Would you be able to provide me with a recording of the behavior?
I will send you a private message so that you can send us the recording securely.

Let me know,

Best regards,

Hello,

We are using Microsoft SQL database as the data source.

I have upload the file Forum-51111.zip. Hopefully I have done it correctly. If not, please advise procedure.

Hello,

I made some more tests: It works ok up to version 2025.2.27.0. Starting with version 2025.2.28.0 it is the described problem. Maybe that helps to identify the issue.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply,

Do you also encounter the problem with the latest version 2025.2.29.0?

I did receive the files unfortunately it looks like there is an issue with the recording, would you be able to reupload it?

Let me know,

Best regards,

Hello,

Thank you for your reply,

Did you create a new recording or reupload the same one?

When attempting to view it on my end, I can only see a 13-second video, during which we can only see your Windows background.

Hello. We upgraded from 2025.1.something to 2025.2.29.0 and we have the same problem except we use VPN type SSH link. It's set to close "on connection close". After we close a connection, the logo in the navigation pane indicates that its still open, so opening it again doesn't work (nothing happens). As a workaround, we can right click the entry and click "close" or "reconnect" to be able to open it again.

I also just tried upgrading to 2025.2.30.0 and the problem still exists.

PS. Tried changing the VPN settings on an entry to: close "confirm disconnection". And the same thing happens (It doesn't ask for any confirmation either)

Hello,

Thank you for your reply,

Would you be able to test using a portable instance of the beta version 2025.3.11.0
https://cdn.devolutions.net/download/Devolutions.RemoteDesktopManager.Bin.2025.3.11.0.zip

You can follow this knowledge base article for this
https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/kb/how-to-articles/portable-rdm-installation/

Make sure you do not connect to your Advanced data source with this version as it would require a database upgrade, simply use the default SQLite for the test.

I have now tested with the portable Beta. Yes, the issue happens there as well.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply,

RDM 2025.3.16.0 has been released, were you planning on upgrading in the near future? From testing on my end using on session close SSH Link it seems to be working as expected where my tunnel is closed when the RDP Connection is ended.

If you are using an Advanced data source like SQL Server it would require a database upgrade:
https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/installation/database-upgrade/

If the issue persists, can you provide me with some screenshots of your configuration?

Let me know,
