Windows 10 SFTP Drag-and-Drop Deletes Local Files When Lacking Permissions on Debian 12

I have a problem: when I use SFTP from my Windows 10 machine to Debian 12 by dragging and dropping files, if I’m not root in the target directory, it deletes the file on my Windows 10. I understand that it doesn’t upload the file when I lack permissions, but I don’t understand why it’s deleting my local .env file—now I’ve lost it. If I don’t have permission in the destination directory, how can I test transferring a file without it being deleted?
