We’ve been using the login account entry for years.
I’d like to switch to using the website entry instead.
The catch is: users are used to opening account entries in the browser using the “Open URL” button.
I want to let the user decide whether they want to open the entry in a tab or in their own browser.
The simplest solution would be to offer an “Open in Browser” button for website entries in addition to “Open Session”.
That way, users can choose each time whether to open the session in a tab or in their browser.
Hello,
There are keyboard shortcuts configured by default to open external or embedded. Do you think this is something that would work for your users?
If they would like to use their default browser, they can choose to open them externally by using Shift+Enter (and this can also be remapped in File>Settings).
Additionally, there is a planet button that will open the URL in your default browser as well, located here in the overview:
Let me know what you think.

Hello,
I see where this is going.
It’s not exactly the same, but I get your point.
Given the available options, it doesn’t really make sense to overload the UI with yet another button.
Thank you for showing me the available options.
To be honest, I completely overlooked the ones under "Open with parameters".
No problem, I'm glad I could help. It's not difficult for us to add a button in the "action" section like "open session", but as you mention, there's a lot of buttons and settings, and we've been trying to de-clutter our UI over time. RDM is a very versatile application with a lot of features and we don't want to remove these features, so we sometimes have to compromise as to what is shown by default, and where it is located.
If you realise that your users can't get used to using the dashboard or the "open with parameters", we'll revisit this request. I'll mark this thread as "will not implement" for now.
Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with!
Regards,
